I'm waiting for a few more eps to be released better I launch into The Mandolorian.

McLane's kid was a Mets fan.Still is, as far as I know. I know that he does not follow the Astros anymore.
My frito pie was pizza. Supreme pizza. I picked off the olives. Did I do it right?Pretty sure DoubleDaves makes a frito pie pizza as one of their monthly specials. I've had their chili dog pizza (used to be the July pizza but wasn't this year) and it is vile and delicious.
Austin currently has a food truck and a brick and mortar of a Nashville Hot Chicken restaurant called Tumble22. I've eaten there probably 6 times in the last year, and it is absolutely amazing. If not the best fried chicken I've ever had, it's pretty damn close.
I just keep remembering 2017, when Cleveland was the hottest thing going: 22 or whatever in a row in September, great pitching, etc, etc. And then they quickly and quietly slipped beneath the waves in the ALDS. They hit their cooling-off period at a very inopportune (for them) time. Was it that or just a case of the Yankees playing great baseball? I honestly don't remember, because I don't think I watched a single game of that series. But I know the Yankees were a tough out in the ALCS.
Make sure to spike the football on his prone body. Just an asshole comment.Agreed. Unnecessarily callous.

It's almost like many of the best female American athletes play soccer while many of the best male American athletes don't. Or something.
“Look, you produce his corpse, and I’ll get on the plane.”
There was a fan shot after Springer's double, and it looked to me like the guy intentionally did a Bregman stare into the camera, which is kind of funny if true.
I figured this was about Jim Ross.

A bald-faced lie -- or barefaced, as it's often called in England -- means one that is undisguised and clearly untrue. A bold-faced lie, on the other hand, is one that is impudent or disrespectful [source: Grammarphobia]. Many lies would fall under both categories.
McHugh with a stiff back. Devo ineffective. James with quad(?).
Is it too soon to hit the 'must resign DK' button while still available?
Asking for a friend.
the flat ground/flat bat app is going to create new opportunities for players who don't have the money to go to showcases, don't have the money to join elite travel teams, don't live in the right part of the country to get exposure or who want to play more than one sport. 10-15 years down the road when we have a more diverse American talent base in baseball, I think his work will get a great deal of credit.
I know I’m probably in the minority, but I’ve grown to love the DH. I never want to see another pitcher hit.
It’s always been clear the Force isn’t purely a matter of inheritance. I’m just saying Johnson was trying to reiterate the theme expressed in Luke’s little speech: “[the] Force does not belong to the Jedi. To say that if the Jedi die the light dies is vanity.”
ETA: this is perfectly consistent with Lucas’ stories. A central premise of the prequel trilogy is that the Jedi Order was a decaying institution and was out of touch with the nature of the Force.
Exactly. Last night I was wondering if they'll implement some rule about stepping off the rubber or hitters calling time and whatnot. Last year it was all the mound visits, so they put in the mound visit limits. We'll see. But it definitely is slowing the game down.
Warning: eleven months later, reliving that game will still stress you the hell out.
Fantastic read, though. Thanks for sharing.
Have you tried allopurinol? Very good for long term control of chronic gout.

Through about 4 episodes and it is excellent. Rukmini is also a great twitter follow.
A few others.
NPR Fresh Air
American Fiasco which retells the story of the 1998 USMNT disaster, hosted by Roger Bennett is really interesting
This American Life, has some great stories
Men in Blazers is enjoyable during the EPL season
It's ridiculous to expect him to get outs under these conditions.
Good news as far as I'm concerned. Hate it when any of our guys are in the HR Derby as well. Seemed like Berkman had a poor 2nd half (at least power wise) after participating.
Well, what is the speculation?
Round Rock? Everything else I can think of is bad.
Dallas Keuchel, part 1. Never seen @kidkeuchy as frustrated as he was on Sunday. @Statcast reveals his start may have been the unluckiest of the season in the majors:
--3 of 13 hits (23.1%) qualified as hard-hit, which is ridiculously bad luck.
(continued)
.@KidKeuchy, part 2:
--Overall 11th-lowest rate of hard contact among any pitcher with 20 batted balls .
--Opponenets 13 for 25 (.525) on Sunday. Expected BA based on contact and launch angle was .280. That 240-point gap largest of season of 1,700 Ps facing 20+ batters
"He's actually a pretty good dude," Davis said but then added after a pause, "said no one ever."
“I keep up with Cole, and I know that he’s killing it,’’ said Decker, 31, now a first baseman with Class AAA Reno in the D-backs organization. “I like him a lot. But I can’t tell you I know Bauer. I spoke with Bauer one time, and I said, 'I’ll never do that again. I’m good. I got my fill for a lifetime.'
“So, I don’t want to say I’m rooting for Cole (Sunday), but I’m completely rooting for Cole. I would love to see Cole strike out 21 batters. And all on high spin-rate sliders.’’
Can he hit?Just hoping a day off and friendly confines might help inspire on some level. Or we could ask just give it up.
Maybe that will wipe the smirk off of Castro's face.I want to wipe it off of Frazier's face. Smug bastard.
Is that what that stupidity is?Yeah. That clap clap clap-clap-clap cadence. Some of the players make a little show because they don't stop till the player acknowledges it.
I had a similar (I think) conversation w/ Ensberg once, and the easy way to ask about it is to ask about what it was like to play in the WS. He opened up from there. I love everything Morgan's done for this organization since then. He's been key in the development of several of the hitters on the current club.
Man, I would have bet a lot of money that you two knew each other from Barking Carnival.I don't write for BC (though I read), and I usually only comment on TWTWB. The guy that writes it is the only one I know personally.
Someone involved with MLB.
Bregman goes deep, Astros 2-1.FWIW I'm watching the game with Jim and he called this HR.
The sports writers seem to think we would all save everyone a lot of time if we went out and shot ourselves.
Me, I'm for wasting sports writers' time, so I'd like to hang around and give me a big old shitburger to munch on.
Like I said, I was just throwing it out there.
You guys bring up a couple of obvious examples of bad luck. I'm saying the ravaging of the pitching staff is almost as historic as the offensive production. I guess they're just cursed.
Yes. If no team claims the player after three business days, he can be traded normally, optioned to the minors, or released. If he does get claimed the teams have two business days to work out a trade.
FWIW "at least a month away" is consistent with the original prognosis of 6-8 weeks. Surgery was on July 19. 6-8 weeks would be August 30 - September 13.
And Correa, of course, says "I feel like I'll be back sooner than expected, so hopefully I can accomplish that. Everything is turning out really good."
1. Baltimore
2. Pittsburgh
3. St. Louis
4. Minneapolis
He loved being an Astro.
If you can get Gray without giving up those 3, I pull the trigger.

I use Google's replacement for Reader, Flipboard, but I liked reader better. Flipboard does have a few good features, and its the primary way I see tweets of people I follow. It doesn't do a whole thread on the tweets, i.e. I if Footer is responding to a question it'll just show her response and the tweet to which she's responding so it's less rabbit -holey than the Twitter app (That thing makes my head hurt).
But if anyone has a good aggregator, please share.
So for those of those that don't tweet... what is this about exactly? You should tweet. Astros Twitter - at least the good ones - are not quite TZ/GZ level, and some of the shtick gets old, but I enjoy it.
It is a good question why Correa wasn't running behind Altuve on that steal.Lost in my "dammit, Gattis," I didn't think of that. But yeah. Dammit.
Astros 6th-round pick, Iowa slugger Jake Adams, has agreed to terms: "It's a sigh of relief knowing I finally got this done," he said.
Adams gets bonus slot value of $249,500.
"It's a great feeling & I'm glad it's all done and over with and we don't have to worry about it."
Nicely said.Yeah, I think Nintendo Power had that little cheat. It's been so many years at this point I don't remember the details so well, but I know we had a rule that no one could be the American Dreams.
Baseball Stars! That game consumed I can't say how many hours of my youth. Did you ever figure out the trick where you could create teams of essentially perfect players? Me, Spiers for Hall of Fame (who used to post here), and his little brother used to play tournaments. For some reason that trick--or the way we figured out to do it--entailed beaning the Lovely Ladies team until they mercy ruled our team in the first. Which doesn't make any sense to me either.
Also, these Root Sports commercials with Astros "fans" makes me a little embarrassed to be an Astros fan.I miss "fat Tony" telling us how Colby Ramus was the best player on the team.
drew, any chance that extra is still available?Yes sir, it is yours!
I absolutely loved Star Wars, Empire and ROJ. My christmas as a kid were filled with opening various SW related toys.
I, II, III just never interested me. Never went to the movies to see them, tried watching them at home, but I don't think I made it through any of them. Am I missing something by not seeing them? They don't seem very necessary to understanding the plots of R1 thru Force Awakens.
So this would indicate that the decrepit old man who implores Luke to tell his sister he was right about him was in the ballpark of, what, 45?
No. There is nothing I love more than the Houston Astros.Like.
Astros 3 up thee down. I've been listening to Johnny Cash and I'm on my fourth bottle of wine.Sounds like a fun night. No sarcasm.
One of my all time highlights here was her post. I imagine she still lurks.
Tyler White for Beltran. Who says no?
Reed for sure.I agree. I am equally intrigued, excited, and uneasy about these next two weeks.
Not so fast on Reed.
CJ, on your tombstone it's going to say "post hoc ergo propter hoc."
Yes sir, but nobody's going to understand what my tombstone means.
That squirrel is finding nuts but his plate approach shows signs of blindness.
During this 1-7 stretch, he has gone .179/.281/.214. And he needs to play better defense.
Basically, only Altuve, Rasmus, and White are holding up their ends of the bargain.
Hamill does an enormous amount of voice work. Don't know if he's done any live acting.
I do (unlike the Wade era) but posting about moves, possible moves, etc., is why we're here during the void. Talking baseball.
Ok, that's 18 by my count, with VirtualBob removed, BudGirl at two, and Doyce7 for two. I'll leave this open until Thursday morning and see where our final count is.
I love TacoDeli and think they build really good stuff, but it's kind of hard to imagine that they're the best in the US. But Torchy's at #2 must be some sort of test to see if anybody is paying attention.
Stros average a bit over 4.3 runs per game. If you say they split the games where they allow 4 runs since you can't score 4.3 runs (they're 13-9 in those, so say they go 11-11) If they scored exactly that, they'd be 70- 45. I just took a quick and basic look at the numbers, but at least for this year's Stros consistency it seems would be better.
Their record when scoring 4 or more is 52-9
They've yet to win a 1-0 game this year, 0-19 when scoring only 1. 2-10 with 2R, 8-9 with 3.
Keith Ginter, Jeriome 15GW Robertson, Jimmy Paredes, Brooks Conrad, Chris Burke, Carlos Hernandez, Eric Ireland, Mike Naninni, Zeke Astacio, Jason Hirsch, ...
Probably only among older folks who remember the heyday of El Rancho when Matt was alive and it was downtown. There weren't that many Mexican restaurants in Austin when it opened and its' location to the capitol and U.T. made it convenient. Coach Royal, LBJ and many other powerbrokers were regulars and put it on the gastronomical map. My kids wouldn't be caught dead there.
No. My experience has been that the AT&T store is much, much quicker, and easier to access. You zip, you zip out with a new iPhone in 15 minutes. If you're absolutely convinced that you need some sort of advice from the store employee, the Apple store clerk will likely know more about his/her product. But not much.
Plus, I find "Lilly", the Uzbekistani AT&T girl to be smoking hot. In the say way Andy finds Flo from Progressive Insurance.
My recollection is legit power, questionable glove. Essentially a Carter clone.
I was really surprised that Swaim wasn't called for holding there.
I thought you Longhorns loved him. Has he always been that way, or is it a recent thing?
Ah...the one who's been working his way down the career ladder.
There is a game out there called Pandemic. It's what's known as a 'cooperative' game where the players can collude to try to beat the game. The fundamental premise is that there are 4 pandemics loose on the world and it's up to your team to keep the human population alive. It's an interesting game that may be played out in real-time shortly. We'll see.
I have yet to find a beer that's too hoppy for my taste. My only gripe with the craft beer explosion is the alcohol content. I like to drink more than one beer a night, and a pint of barley wine is not conducive to that preference.
In fact, other than fruit-based beers, the only type of beer I don't like is brown ale, as it is just dishwater with (or maybe without) a head. Now, there are plenty of brands that I don't like, who make horrible versions of types of beer that I do like, but that's not the same thing (obviously).
The problem with all those "craft" beers at the ball yard is that 99% of "craft" beers suck donkey balls.
Well the good news for those of us who enjoy watching the USMNT, is the lead up to the next World Cup is gonna be pretty badass.
-Gold Cup next summer, with a spot in the 2017 Confederations Cup on the line. (win and we go, lose and we have a 1 game playoff for the slot).
-2016 Copa Americas, in the United States! Followed by the Olympics, followed by the start of WC Qualifying
-2017 Hopefully the Confederations Cup and the Hex.
Now onto the task of finding some midfielders who can retain possession and create goal opportunities...
Damn. Great effort, but the better team won. Now the douchbaegs (Anne Coulter and Keith Olberman)who wait four years to bitch about soccer can STFU.
So Vincent Kompany might miss the match vs the US with an injury. If so, that is a pretty big loss for the Red Devils.
The bats were engineered to behave more like wooden bats which makes sense to me.
Terrible swing and hit, but just effective enough. Rough way to go out for the horns.
You need to lift your head from the numbers and watch the games. It would be an insult to amateurs to describe England as amateurish. Piss poor defending, zero marking, giving the ball away all over the pitch, static and clueless in attack. And that's just the so-called experienced leader Steve Gerrard. No one else was any better.
But, yes, Italy running the table and England beating Costa Rica would see them through.
I need to give the Mac DeMarco a few listens. I've only read great things about it. And thanks for the Mozes and the Firstborn rec - not on my radar at all.
If you're ever in Austin, I just got a pastrami Reuben from Melvin's Deli Comfort, a trailer on 53rd and Duval. They smoke their pastrami over apple wood and it's fall-apart tender with a beautiful smoke flavor. They cure their own meats, make their own dressings, sauces and sauerkraut, get their breads from a local bakery and their cheeses and vegetables locally as well. The price was the same as that at the ball park, but the product was light years better and they're consistently great - I've been buying their food for a couple of years now.Is that the red trailer? The bartender at Workhorse told me they made the best sandwiches in Austin, but I have yet to get by there.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend OD, as work has me out of the country. If anyone wishes to use my ticket (it's already paid for), please let myself and Ron Brand know. I only have one request...when you sit down to eat at Spanish Flowers, please remove your hat.
17 of them were:

Jack Morris was a fine pitcher and a workhorse, but he is often romanticized by his advocates.
I agree with HH about the bowl games. How long will it be before college football plays a game in February? I predict that the playoff system will drag it out that long one day.
Nope. Are they New Zealand bands? No, punk rock band that covers other songs. Pretty entertaining.
What's the post-JFF plan?
I wanted Gary Barnett over Mack Brown. What the fuck do I know?
It's pretty safe to say that at this point, anything you're reading about coaching possibilities at Texas is total bullshit.
Apparently the mood at the football banquet was dreadful last night.
I still think he's gone. I think he just wanted to make Chip Brown look that much worse on his way out.
Meantime, most Texas fans are going full retard.
I'd be willing to bet they hang half a hundred.
No kidding. It's embarrassing.
He took a team nobody expected much from all the way to the de facto conference championship game. Why should he quit now?
Either that or frozen to death. As much as I'd have loved to experience that game in person tonight, I think my skinny ass would have been miserably cold
The Baylor game really surprised me. I thought it would be very competitive.
I really, really wish he would announce his retirement, effective year end, today.
If you get a chance (and there's no competing bands you'd rather see), I'd be really interested in how Foxygen plays live. I imagine it'd be a great set.
We hate our cat. We like our dog. We endure the kids.
And that goldfish we bought at Petco a year ago has an admirable will to live. I vow to be more like him or her every day, whatever his or her name is.
+1 Fuck him.
Yes, unfortunately he is. Which means that our potential AA meeting at Round Rock may be overwhelmed by band-wagoning, schlong-gorvelling Rangers fans. The prospect is pretty revolting.
It would be a shame if he took away critical at bats from Pena.
Let me guess... it has something to do with Vince Young?
Not that winning is everything in the minors but pulled this off of what the heck bobby:
That's funny, I just clicked on this album 30 minutes ago. I really liked the first song, but like you, got bored and switched to something else.
Also boring is the new National, but I'm determined to like it so I'll probably listen another couple dozen times or so this week to make myself fall in love with it.
Not boring? Vampire Weekend's new one. I hated Contra and thought their self-titled one was a one-shot cutesy album. This is far, far better than both, and I had zero expectations going in. It's a bit more, I don't know, out there? Not as tightly spun? Either way, it's great shit. Hannah Hunt and Unbelievers stand out to me. The rest is great, too.
I think because of his shortened Spring, he hasn't built up his pitch count. They didn't want to go off the plan.
(3) MMPUS has the worst customer service I've ever seen. When the park is half full there should not be long lines at the concession stands. I want to give you $8 for some nachos. Is it too much to ask for the chips not to be stale and the queso be hot? Can I get a $5 hot dog that wasn't cooked the day before? Can an usher actually provide decent directions? Can the bathrooms be clean?
Mid 4, 13-0 Astros on the strength of 4 (!) home runs so far.
Nine BCS championships in 15 years speaks loudly to me.
Slightly different levels of diminishing. Notre Dame went away for 20 years until recently and attendance and TV ratings soared during that time. Heck, in the early 90's, UT was practically giving away tickets at H-E-B for $5 in order to get their attendance to 60K. Now, the 100,000th ticket still costs you $40 or more.
Whatever UT wizard decided that David Ash/Case McCoy was a better choice than Johnny Manziel needs to be fired yesterday.
At points, Ash looks like he's showing signs of pulling it together, and then he appears to regress a bit. Still, a win is a win. Okafur is a man out there! That was one of the better individual defensive efforts I've seen in some time, although the rest of the defense is pretty meh.
From Twitter:
I don't begrudge them for trying to make more money off their content. I don't have access to their financial statements, so I don't know how bad off they are. But, if they're making money off the myriad advertisements on each webpage, are they really giving content away or are they selling it to a third party, instead of the reader? It's a different business model, but if they were just giving away the content, they wouldn't have been able to sustain their operations nearly as long as they have. Unfortunately, since I don't live in Houston, I have no reason (like many others) to read their content other than the Astros. As a result, they won't be making any more money off me, either as a viewer or subscriber.
Fine by me. I think most Texas fans would have been happy if Diaz was not on staff next year. Harsin leaving was more of a unexpected gut punch.
It's not that I don't think Major can do the job. I think he can. It's there are major issues in the program. Harsin didn't come here to bail after two seasons for a Sunbelt job. Durham Smythe, a badly needed 4 star TE from Belton(same school as Ash) decommits. A'Shawn Robinson, 5 star defensive tackle, may decommit unless mom wins out. Kyle Hicks, 4 star rb, decommits. All the juco offers. The program is in disarray, and Mack thinks he is doing the right thing trying to save his legacy. Before this week's turn of events, I thought Texas could give Mack 2013 and then have him retire, but that's just not a good option anymore. The program needs new blood at the top and it needs it immediately following the Alamo Bowl.
