Indeed. Thanks, Brad! Best of luck in whatever you do next.

That's pretty tall cotton he walked in.
I'm all for BCS busters being included in the mix, but the rule that allowed Northern Illinois to sneak into the BCS should be amended. Non-AQ schools should have to run the table to be included, imo.
I'm trying to think of the last time a Texas football or basketball team won a game they weren't expected to.
had enchiladas at a Tex-Mex place. first time ever to be alone for the Thanksgiving meal. it fucking sucked.
I don't know. From what I saw of Kansas State last saturday night, they're lucky that they are where they are, in my opinion.
Probably Michigan (neutral site) or Washington (roadhome). And what great OOC giants have been slayed by Pac 12 / Big 12 teams?
Did I hear correctly that Manziel would have accepted Texas if offered?

Burton says it's BS. FWIW.
OK, apparently I can't like the Samsung Galaxy S3. I tried, I really did, but it just wasn't for me. It was too big, too thin, and everytime I even looked at the screen things would happen. Also, just couldn't get used to the Android platform. So I had to return it, re-activate my old iPhone 4 along with my upgrade eligibility. AT&T hasn't had any since the launch date and don't know when/if they will ever get any more. Apple store people told me to get online at 10:00 pm and try "pick up in store". I did that tonight, and none are available in Houston. You can get whatever you want all over the place in Dallas, San Antonio or Austin, but nothing in Houston. I'll try for a few days (though 10 pm is past my bed time), and if not, it's still 3-4 weeks to order one. They told me if I ordered today, there's a chance I can get it before Thanksgiving.
Sigh. Apparently Apple hates me like AT&T hates chuck.
zero talent? bullshit. zero coaching. plenty of talent.
Come on, you can't really be worried about Kansas.
Yes, MB is at his best in rallying a Texas team from a devestating loss to OU. He has that routine down.
And, yes, I expect Texas will defeat Baylor Sunday.
of course it is. i heard MB himself call it "inept."
No. Furyk should consider life in a monastery for about five to ten years.
Also, Davis Love learned nothing from when Crenshaw captained the US to their comeback--send out your best guys first on Sunday. That's exactly what Olazabal did and it is obviously a pretty decent strategy. Also, the Euros are just better and they pulled their collective heads out of their asses and showed it on Sunday. Ian Poulter would have made a great assassin. Also, Tiger has never played a team sport in his life and it shows in the Ryder Cup--he hates being there and would find it hard to pull for his own kids in a soccer match. Mickelson has the focus of a shovel. Colin Montgomerie is a pretty damn decent commentator and appears to have dropped a cup size.
Do you guys at the Club have a secret handshake?
I'm a dumbass. CJ Spiller and RG III are riding the bench on my fantasy team today.
Any word on the new Mumford & Sons album?
No, I checked AFTER the movie. It came during, but my phone was off.
Alamo Drafthouse, bitches.
A very long time ago, there used to be a place near downtown (on what now sits the MMPUS actually) that had the best Fried Chicken I've ever had. I was just a kid, may be 12 or so, but I would work with my Dad during the summer to make some spending money. During lunch, on rare occasions, my Dad would take the ten minute drive down to this place and we'd sit down and eat the chicken plate. It was two pieces of chicken with a side salad (French dressing) and some fries (and iced tea... unsweetened of course). Something like 2 dollars if I remember correctly, maybe 2 and a half. I would eat the whole thing without a problem and my Dad would just smile at me with that proud papa look. I can't remember the name of the place, but it was so darn good. The chicken was not only deep fried, but it had a sort of tomato sauce blended it as they fried it.
Yum!
P. S. I used to trek over to Ervin's Chicken in Temple when I would have to commute there to work on a project. That was good stuff, but trust me, you don't eat there every day... lessen your days be numbered on this here earth.
The Wizards of Os. Or did you block those guys from your memory?
So I got the new Dirty Projectors album, read all of the glowing reviews, even heard it at Anvil tonight - but I just can't seem to get into it. I recognize that it's well-crafted music, but it's just not...enjoyable to me. Anybody heard it that can tell me what I'm missing?
A "craft" brewery is defined as producing less than 6MM bbls per year. Sam Adams produces less than half of that. So, despite the fact that you can get it everywhere, and it tastes like shit, Sam Adams is certainly defined as "craft".Don't know the accuracy of this, but on my visit to Stone the other day our driver said that Sam Adams lobbied to move the threshold up to 6M so that they could maintain their status as a craft brewery.
get someone else to do it. would it hurt?
I wonder sometimes if Zimmer needs to do stuff like this in order to keep up with Jos A Bank and those clowns at SuitMart.
Again, I feel people should work the hours of the day they need to, based on their need to work with other individuals, or their clients, or the public, or whatever their job demands. Working 8am-5pm really isn't very productive if your clients are working midnight to 8 am.
Praise you, drew.
Looking around for the new Tallest Man on Earth and any news relating to a new Frightened Rabbit, Phoenix or Grizzly Bear album.
So much for Crane demanding that they take Appel. BA looks ridiculous now.
It's so hard for me to get into the NBA for several reasons and this is one of them.
The structure of the league is so backwards but it's the only the way the league can be successful. While parity may be good for football and baseball (to an extent), it isn't for the NBA. There are a small group of superstars that dictate what happens in the league. At the end of the season everyone wants to see these superstars play each other and that's what the NBA has right now. I do think the league would operate much better if 2-4 teams were contracted.
His Twitter feed is hilarious btw. I'm convinced it's a joke account. No one is that crazy, right?
I am absolutely serious in saying that I will adopt the Nats as my NL team next year. They should be hella fun to watch.
Tonight is throwback jersey night, the dreaded Colt '45 handgun night (along with dollar hot dogs). Too bad won't get to see it tonight in Austin, unless they're on channel 77 for some reason (they may be).
Therefore, when you tune in Fox Southwest during baseball season within the next few days, more than likely you’ll see the Houston Astros even though we know only a few of their names (Carlos Lee, Wandy Rodriguez, and Chris Johnson). You’ll have to look elsewhere for the Rangers.
“The Austin area is, is considered a home market for the Astros, but when those games are on Fox SW and the Rangers are playing at the same time, then the Rangers game will be on Channel 77 [in Austin],” says Melissa Sorola, regional communications director for Time Warner Cable.
Kids don't know they're supposed to be horrible yet...
"So help me, I will shove a motherboard so far up your ass.."
"Technically, I outrank you."
"SO. FAR! Up your ass."
This. I was literally laughing out loud at the comments about Sunday's episode of Mad Men.
I've never seen her play or even seen her. What is the nature of the comments?
Chuckie Carr doesn't like the tone of this thread.
Regards,
Chuckie Carr
the last sacred bastion of baseball has fallen..
Well fuck that. Why would I do that when I can already get the audio on my iPhone?
I don't have a 2, I have a 3.
Piggybacking on this thread... I just got an iPad2 through work (I know, bad timing, but I had no control -- it was this or nothing, not this or the new one). I've had an iPhone for years, but curious if anyone has any good iPad-specific app recommendations.
How do you back up all your stuff?
is Endeavor at Spec's?
She nailed the national anthem at the giants bills super bowl like few have ever done. Amazing voice
I'm not for a name change, I have to many tops with the Astros' logo on them, I'd hate to have to replace them.
So Holgerson runs the score up. Puts his starting QB back in the game after the sub throws a pick while WV is up by 40. I guess we welcome into the Big 12 another Bob Stoops douche-nozzle.
Solemn faces from the PSU crowd on the train home now.
There was a man on fire, and I killed Bud Selig with a trident.
I thought it was kinda bullshit to send him to NYC over Kennum. He is good though.
Hook 'em! remy can laugh all he wants. great win for the Horns!
Not to mention a 1 game playoff for the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.
I replied thanking him for the canned response.
50 million to go to the AL
(allegedly)
http://blog.chron.com/ultimateastros/2011/10/20/report-jim-crane-asks-for-50-million-reduction-of-astros-purchase-price/
So... 30 pieces of Silver over 2000 years... Hell, that's a lot of inflation.
Other than the DE play, I can't think of any. They are what I thought they would be: young, learning, and inferior in talent to OU and OSU.
I can safely say that this has never happened to me.
I'm a big Lagunitas fan, not so much a Hefe fan though. Love their IPAs. Would I like this?
I have no need for the "Good riddance".
Good luck. Kid did his damnedest, just wasn't meant to be.
Oh, and about the previously rumoured iPhone 5, it is likely that it was all the work of case manufacturers trying to get a jump on sales by releasing cases based on a design that may not even exist. Don't expect the 5 to show up anytime before Apple's customary 3rd/4th qtr release next year.
Point is, if you keep your mouth shut and respect those who have vastly more knowledge about the team and the game, you'll be alright.
The new Wilco is a nice return to form for everyone who fell in love with YHF and was disappointed by the easy listening vibe of the past couple releases.
The LHN is fine.
You mean how Texas ended up staying in the Big 12 with OU, keeping the LHN, probably adding BYU and replacing the commissioner they didn't want anyway? Or do you mean the part where OU learned they couldn't go to the PAC-12 and didn't have too many other options?
Watch out now, one of the relatively anonymous posters who otherwise brings almost nothing to the site may call you a pussy.
Guys, guys, I think you're failing to recognize the impressive stature of the writer here, I mean after all, did you not see in his post-column bio? He's not just a former BPer and baseball writer: he's a dermatologist.
So, we really should yield to his poorly-researched, recycled opinions and accept whatever he has to say about the Astros.
I agree that it is mental stress issue, not a physical tools issue. I think him being part of a rotation in the short term, is the best way to resolve who should warrant the lion's share of snaps in the long term.
i know college football doesn't have the complex presnap reads and route options that pro offenses have, but you still gotta wonder about the coaching gilbert's received in his 2+ years on campus. most of the mistakes outlined here seem easily avoidable with basic coaching. The complexity from last year to this year has increased significantly, and Gilbert seems to lag as a distant third in really getting a handle on it. At this stage I don't think we can blame "poor coaching" for his deficiencies. And to be honest, inability to develop quarterbacks was not Greg Davis' major woe.
Gilbert tried his best. And seems like a good guy. If you can point to lack of effort anywhere in Gilbert’s game, I’m happy to concede. Not lack of performance. That’s clear enough. Lack of effort. I’m not aware of any off-field issues either. So when a good citizen tries his hardest and doesn’t pan, he’s an object of personal scorn? Really?
I don’t mean a choice curse word after an interception, an expression of desire for another signal caller, or a detailing of his deficiencies. I’m talking about the hyper-personal garbage we’ve all seen or heard.
Newsflash: Garrett Gilbert plays for Texas.
He’s OUR guy as a member of the team, even if he’s not your guy or my guy at starting QB.
You either get that at some fundamental level or you don’t. And if you don’t, I can only speculate on the cause. Maybe you’re a jerk. Maybe you revel in the failure of others in all aspects of life. Maybe you don’t know any better. Maybe the commercialization of college football and absurd ticket prices have created a professional mindset in fans. Maybe you like attention, whatever its form. Maybe it’s exciting to boo.
Except that is all trumped by this: The Longhorns are our team. Our players – at least the ones who conduct themselves with class on and off of the field and play their hardest every Saturday – are our guys.
If you’re one of the people booing him, luxuriating in Gilbert’s failures, or writing personal attacks, this isn’t the place for you. We generally give people all the rope necessary to hang themselves and our moderating touch is light, mostly because our readership is smarter than the average bear. At some level, stupidity is self-evident and is its own caution to others.
But QB controversies have an amazing attractive ability. It’s emotional flypaper. Idiots emit some sort of clustering beacon to attract others where they try to find some collective purchase like viruses trying to take over their host. Then it becomes a game of one-upmanship for who can top the others for shock, hatred, and cowardice. Thankfully, that number has been small here, but it’s not going to spread.
Really and truly. Making websites occasionally comes with perks.
1 other thing about the proposed PAC16, that would be a fantastic road trip conference. Some great cities in that 16.
I'll only take a little credit.
When do I get my appearance fee check?
Summer is almost gone, and I hadn't recalled a thread on our summer reading, so...
I'm finishing up The Big Rich by Bryan Burrough (who wrote Barbarians At The Gate).
You must really enjoy cool glasses of dirt.
No one's BEEN like Gaston, or could BE like Gaston.
You know what? I don't care how good it is. I am not standing in line for three hours. If I wanted to loiter around in front of a trailer for the better part of the day among a crowd of the anxious and unwashed I'd pick up a meth habit.
I'm ready to hand him the hot corner job over Clank II.
I had no idea that Keuchie is a lefty. Maybe I should start paying attention.
why? what did he do?
And people think I'M the whippersnapper around here.
There's nothing wrong with Subway as long as you understand that you're getting what you pay for. Simple, cheap sandwiches. I wasn't hosting royalty, just a bunch of people who'd need to soak up beer and for whom I couldn't be arsed to grill.
small pitcher of beer / 40 oz
I'm having a very hard time coming up with any place in Austin that is not bettered by multiple places in Houston. For any cuisine, any style.
Noe,
Since Osama was buried at sea, will it take him longer to turn into oil?
OK, I wasn't sure what you were talking about with MLK, so I skipped over that. I thought maybe there was something else I missed. I had not seen anything about this before until I saw this today:
http://www.theatlantic.com/national/archive/2011/05/anatomy-of-a-fake-quotation/238257/
I haven't read the whole article, so I hope it isn't offensive to anyone.
What I said were my own words. I am glad OBL is gone. He was not a good person, and his influence on others, and what he did, was terrible. He led a group of people that wanted to be led down that road for whatever reason.
The reason I cannot celebrate has to do more with how many lives were lost or destroyed, and will continue to be lost and destroyed. What I was trying to say was that his death reminded me of those people who have been hurt, not that I have sympathy for him in any way. I am sorry I did not express myself well.
They'd like you to bring back 8-track tapes. I don't know if you can do that.
OK,
I will state that I have a hard time celebrating the death of anyone. I believe what OBL did was terrible beyond imagination. I am not sorry that he is no longer there, for many reasons. I have seen too many people celebrate terrible things that have happened in the US, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Asia, and elsewhere, and I always wondered how they could.
I am not sorry he is gone.
I am happy for those who needed him to be gone.
I am hopeful for those who resisted his influence.
I honor those who fought to eliminate him and people like him.
I cannot celebrate that it was necessary.
The Killing has my Sunday nights.
The Great.....
15-game winner.....
When at all possible, I avoid writing with pens that are not the pilot G-2. I don't need a fine writing instrument, but I certainly prefer it to other writing tools. Nice rubber grip and consistent, fluid ink flow.
First true Tiger charge in memory.

i just can't find the game on tv in Austin
That's why you paper your own calendar. Not sure what you do, but I've always found that "Offsite meeting with potential client" works well in such circumstances...
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict "critical acclaim" but "financial failure".
I will add, I have read all of Ayn Rand's published work. Call me a glutton for punishment if you must. The Fountainhead, with Gary Cooper, was also mostly true to the book as well. Painfully so, at times.
Yeah, but it would be nice to do better than either of them.
Showtime is pulling shows like Dexter and Californication off from Netflix's watch instantly offerings. Probably just a matter of time before you can subscribe directly to Showtime to view their shows online without having to pay a third party to deliver the content.
It was right. After 4 seconds you cant call a timeout
I refuse to even waste any time on Charlie Sheen.
I'm not going to defend them, but this isn't like during the killer b days. Astros were not a very good team last year in case you didn't notice. Not worst record in baseball, but many many things would need to go right for them to make the playoffs this year.
Who was the guy that used to do the games with Craig before Keith, like 15 years ago?
and am planning on gorging myself on BBQ tomorrow for a late lunch.
of course, there always is a reason for losing. if they had not confused defense with karate, it might have gone better for them.
I hope Ohio State leapfrogs us.
Just to cheer you up, I will remind you that it was cancelled to make way for "John from Cincinnati". Did anyone ever find out why that bloke levitated? Did anyone even care?
There is potentially a lot more money to be made in Silicon Valley than in the NFL.
Call me old fashioned, but I still prefer to buy an actual CD and then upload it to iTunes.Get off my lawn!
I heard that Alkie scrawled his name (and phone number) on the wall (in the bathroom).
Is this your homework, Larry?
He fixes the cable?
You mean coitus?
Leads? Yeah, we got three new detectives working on it. They got us working in shifts!
I wouldn't hold out much hope for the tape deck, though... Or the Creedence.
then he is part of the problem, which i have thought all along.
I know this sounds crazy, but maybe, just maybe Holgorsen doesn't want to go to UT? Nah, let's instead attack his character with fabricated bullshit and pretend we're not interested in him because of it. (not directed at you MM, but the source of the rumors)
Then we disagree on what we see from the scheme. In those BCS teams, I see an offense that was at it's best when the play broke down.
There is no NFL talent on the offense at the moment. When is that last time that was the case?
What you are seeing is a lack of talent rather than a lack of effort.
I take it all back.
This team might be worse than 1997.
