Can't make it to Waco today, but I've got a brand new 60" LED and Yamaha 5.1 system set up just in time for this one!  Floyd Casey is gonna be rockin' tonight, gonna be quite a spectacle.

The lady is a BU season ticket holder and is headed up to pregame shortly. George's is going to be insane, I'm sure.

Historic evening of college football.  2 top 10 games. The rest of the weekend is just gravy.  We'll see if Baylor is for real or not.

Me too. For most of that first half they seemed to be too amped up by the occasion, or distracted, or something. I think they finally calmed down and got back to their regular rhythm.

And that safety who had his back to the play waving his arms at the crowd while OU snapped the ball on 4th and goal is one lucky dude. Although I imagine he didn't enjoy half-time very much.

I am glad the points finally came.  Keep it going.

I was at a presentation this morning where one attorney wearing a green Baylor sweater under his sport coat co-hosted a panel with a Patrick Bateman looking power suited Vinson and Elkins - Dallas attorney who kept stressing that he was a "defendants" lawyer who represented "major corporations" unlike the Baylor guy, who often represents plaintiffs in commercial disputes.  At the beginning of the presentation, the Baylor alum jokingly mentioned that he's really enjoying his college football team's success this season.  No less than 14 times over the next hour the "defense" attorney made sure to remind his co-panelist that UT is where the real winners are, despite this* year, and that much like the fact that corporate defendants will always prevail, Baylor will crawl back into its hole again soon enough.

*this year?  It's been a run of years, buddy.

Meanwhile, flipping over to the PAC-10 game, it is clear to me that Stanford needs to step up its hazing curriculum if it wants to properly prepare its student-athletes for the NFL.

We go ten weeks without anyone playing a college game I give a shit about and tonight we have two plus a very entertaining NFL game plus an MLS game I'm interested in plus the Rockets.

I'm just kidding about the Rockets but tonight it sucks not having seven televisions in the living room like Alkie. I guess I could have gone to Hooters. They're building a new one in Albrook, you know.

I would guess that Stanford is relatively weak when it comes to recruiting bullying, racist lunatics. Maybe they tend not to have the SAT scores, I don't know.

Great win for Baylor tonight, but man the injuries to Martin and Reese really sting.

So I decided to watch the end of the Rockets game after all. I haven't watched any part of an NBA game in several years and I wondered if I was being unfair in my unbridled hatred of NBA basketball.

I tuned in with eight minutes and change left in the game. There's a shot clock, you know, so each team generally has a possession every twenty seconds or so. In nearly nine minutes of basketball I saw the Rockets score three baskets, one of which was an uncontested dunk. The Lakers scored four. In those eight plus of scintillating basketball I witnessed a total of nine missed free throws. There were twenty three missed field goals in this stretch, by the way, seven for thirty for both teams.

So I guess that ends my NBA experience for the year. Sadly, college basketball is even worse.

Of course there's a reason both are starters, but I'm starting to think Linwood may do okay in Martin's role. But Reese... Can Norwood/Fuller/Coleman/Rhodes fill that loss?

After not having watched the NBA regularly for 15 years or so, I got NBA League Pass this year so I could watch the Rockets and revel in the frontrunning bandwagonation. I think they are a lot of fun with a lot of talent. I haven't watch the west coast games this week because they start too late (and last night was on TNT). You are correct, that Asik and Howard are not very good free throw shooters.

If last night is any indication, Norwood'll fit in alright.  As for the game, I knew Baylor's D was legitimate, but I really had no clue as to how legit they could actually be.  Stopping OU for 7 consecutive plays from inside the 12 yard line (goal line stand; forcing a field goal after OU returned a kick to the 12) during a first quarter in which the BU O was getting shut down?!? Phenomenal!  And a 29-point margin of victory given that the Bears O was not firing on all (or even most) cylinders? Superb!

And as an aside, was especially nice to be able to watch the game in PDX with about 20 others last night (15-16 BU grads and significant others, along with a couple of general attendees...)!  [*We may have been the only ones in PDX that enjoyed watching college football last night though...  Not a ton of happy Ducks fans around today...].

Don't get carried away.  OU is atrocious on offense.

I appreciate that - especially given the loss of one of its best RBs...  Still though, at that point in the game 7 consecutive stops within the 12 against any offense says a lot about the unit as a whole...

Not sure if they can, but they're gonna have to regardless:

Such a damn shame.  I sat next to one of his grade school teachers at the WVU game and she had nothing but glowing things to say about him as a young man, hate to see his career this way and at such a time.

How on earth did they continue to carry a #10 ranking after UT beat the shit out of them? Anybody who has watched them know that there just an average team.
