It's all over the radio...citing Orangebloods.com.

Some or all of these are true:

1. Mack is stepping down.  Or, not.
2. Saban is in Austin.
3. Saban's wife is in Austin.
4. Saban's wife and Mrs. Brown were seen together.
5. Saban asked to watch #4, after unbuttoning the top button of his button down and lighting a Pall Mall.
6. Joe Jamail took a long, luxurious dump and declared Longhorn faithful to be "Taliban schlong gorvellers."
7. Mack will be named, "Special Advisor to the President" after he steps down.
8. Mack will be allowed to wear a head set in his new role and be given a trident.
9. Saban will have a base of $10 million and numerous perks, including telling the LHN that he will ascent to a weekly show provided that it features a lead in of him masturbating into a Faberge egg cup.
10. Chip Brown is really a rhesus monkey named, "Bobo."

So I googled 'masturbating into faberge egg' and somewhat to my surprise it returned no directly relevant hits - no video, no nothing. I did however find something about a woman who discovers her son jacks off into the egg drop soup at the restaurant where he works so it wasn't a total loss.

Yeah...I was trying to make a funny, juxtaposing the one realistic rumor with "masturbating into a Faberge egg".  Or are you saying the latter is a real possibility?  Seems like nothing is out of the question in pursuit of one Saban, N.

Brown has now said he's not going anywhere.  He's on a recruiting trip in Florida at the moment, and has no idea where such a rumor started.

He took a team nobody expected much from all the way to the de facto conference championship game.  Why should he quit now?

Revisionist history. He took a team nobody expected anything from after two early season blowout losses to the de fact conference championship game. Before the season started, Mack himself was calling this a team that could win the Big 12 or more. This was also the culmination of his "three year plan," after the 2010 season, in which he was supposed to have returned Texas to prominence.

I'd say that 12 losses (likely 13 in a few weeks) in that span doesn't accomplish the goal HE set. Time to go.

total bullshit. MB said before the season this team would be in the NC "mix" and had the talent to win all of its games.

Wasn't there a leak of J. Edgar Hoover resignation during the Nixon administration that kept Hoover from resigning?  It's the first think I thought of when I saw the Mack Brown internet announcement.  They were idiots to post something like that before Brown himself had announced it.

Also, he fired a DC at that point that he had kept in the offseason only because he couldn't find the guy a "soft landing" spot, like FIU's HC gig.  Instead, he keeps his DC and then brings in Robinson as an "advisor" - then lost 2 games because his defense was a shitshow.

Yeah, but John has his super bowl win. I think that's part of the motivation, if it's remotely true -- his wanting to be on that short list of coaches who won titles both at the pro and college level.  Sucks large that Switzer is on that list.  At least Paul Brown counterbalances his addition.  Is Jimmy Johnson the only other one?

Ehh.  I'm still convinced Mack is retiring, in which case Chip would end up being right anyway.  I don't think Chip ever said anything concrete about timing.  Knowing what we know of Mack I think it's perfectly plausible that Mack was going to announce this week, then changed his timeline after the leak just to screw with Chip, knowing that the fans would go apeshit.

I don't see how that's possible. The names most often mentioned are Jim Harbaugh, Gus Malzahn and Jimbo Fisher, but there's no way to know much of anything at this point.

Jim or John Harbaugh? The latter seems the one who fits the alleged "resume" some have reported is required.

Kelly still has a show cause penalty in effect.

There's a better chance of Saban taking the job for free.

He's certainly paid his dues.

My ideal candidate? Jack Bauer. However, he is unavailable. And fictional. And overqualified.

Next?  Either Harbaugh.

Strong is after that, level with Malzahn.

I have been reading tweets all day on all of the coaches who aren't interested in the UT job. Then I read that Jameis Winston said that he really wanted to come to UT and had his high school coach call Mack Brown five times without a response. Then Winston called him too without a bite.

It's looking like it's going to be Strong, given that Briles and Mora withdrew today and Franklin is going to interview at PSU this weekend.  Don't know how many guys turned down an offer or if any offers were ever given.
There's always the possibility of Saban/Fisher, but I think both are unlikely.  Happy to be wrong on both accounts, but I'd be pleased with Strong, too.

Hey, Mack had Case McCoy. Seriously though, I wonder if character issues didn't scare some coaches off of Winston. Was that rape charge before or after he entered FSU? I don't know.

I don't know more about him having not seen alot of Louisville. He looks like a tough-guy coach on the sidelines which I think will be a welcome change. Suppossedly a good recruiter. I hope he has a great offensive coordinator since he is a defensive guy.

But they weren't hired because they are African-American, they were hired because they are damn good football coaches. I think it's more of a coincidence than interesting. However, Stanford having an African-American coach, that is interesting.

Why?
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Pretty interesting that both Texas and A&M will have African-american coaches

Not to say Holtz isn't a cartoon character

Holtz in HD is one of the reasons I'm glad I don't have a TV right now.

FWIW, I think that the Strong hiring is great for the university, and he will quickly restore the Longhorns to the National Championship conversation.

It's going to take a little time to get back to that level, I believe, but Strong brings alot of positives and new energy. As a Texas-ex I am excited.

How about tonight? Can AU hand with FSU?

I had predicted that FSU would win but wouldn't cover, which actually happened. That brought my overall bowl record against the spread to 17-18, which is hardly sterling. I got off to a dreadful 1-7 start. I've become convinced that the minor bowl games are a crap shoot.
