One more sleep until S7 starts. Im not sure how it lives up to the hype I have created in my mind. Finally got my wife to watch after years of her pushing back. I re-watched all six season with her in about 3 weeks. It is amazing how much stuff you pick up on the second time through.

Also, if any of you are interested, I run a Game of Thrones death pool. We started last year since they were past the books. It was a blast last season, especially when Cersei took aboot about 7 characters in one swoop in the finale.

It is $20 to enter, we should have between, 25-40 people in it this season. You pick 7 characters will die. If you are interested in joining send an email to [email protected] and I wills end you the rules.

I was able to binge S1-4 and listen to "Binge Mode" podcast for those, but I skipped ahead to S6E10 last night to remind myself where everyone was.

God, what a magnificent episode of television.

I have a personal theory (it may be widely shared, I don't know) that in the end Bran is going to nullify the whole show by keeping Ned from becoming Hand.

Zero. It is a Death Pool, not a come back to life pool. If someone dies, they die, them coming back to life like Jon Snow, doesn't nullify the death.

Is that "Battle of the Bastards"? We re-watched that and the season finale the other night to prepare. Great stuff. The only thing that made me cringe a little was the "we're badass" shot of Danaerys and co. all standing in formation on the deck of the ship with cheesy tough/determined looks on their faces.

While this season hasn't been as good so far, as say, 1-4, it's much better than the train wreck season 5 and better even than season 6. Outside of a few scenes, I'd say it's been pretty good.

I peaced-out after Season Two, despite GoT in theory checking the vast majority of my entertainment boxes. I hated most of the characters by then and the ones I liked were routinely killed by the ones I didn't. I didn't have the energy or enthusiasm to continue.

Seems I'm not alone.

A few ramblings..

The way the sand snakes were dealt with was clumsy. Almost silly. The entire naval battle felt glued on to the episode as simply a way to quickly hit the fast forward button.

Sam stumbling on a picture that appeared to be drawn by a 6 year old that leads to such major machinations was almost insulting. When Gilly reacts to the news with a casual "oh that's nice" nod of the head I actually guffawed. It's like they weren't even trying.

I'm afraid to say Emilia Clarke is not a good actress. Her performance is dragging the show down. The silent stare of gravitas is getting very stale. The meeting between all the players at Dragonstone was awkward and the "plan" they came up with foiled in 5 minutes of screen time.

Are we really to believe that it took the brilliant mind of a mad scientist to come up with a surefire dragon killer in the form of.... a ballista...?! Wtf? It's taken us hundreds of years to regularly take down a flying object with a single projectile. It involves laser guidance, gps, and all sorts of shit I don't understand. But right.. a large ballista will be just fine. Who could have possibly dreamed up a device such as this in a medieval era fantasy....?

I'll save the other nitpicks... there have been some good scenes and moments but to me the first bit here has been hot garbage. It's all leading to what people want... giant battles and gore. That's not what kept me coming back to the books. It was the detail of the world Martin created, and the vivid characters.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that George R R Martin's series has been a part of my life for 20 years now. I read the first book about a year after it came out and was hooked. The next book took a really long time to come out so by then I felt the need to start book one over again. This same pattern repeated each time he finally released another sequel. When the show came out I was thrilled! Most of it I've really enjoyed (I'm choosing to ignore Bronn and Jaime's merry misadventures in Dorne - that was shit). But I'm sad to say that the show is losing me now.

Didn't Qyburn tell Cersei something like, "every blacksmith is working day & night to build thousands of these"? I'd think a several-hundred-shot barrage of those would result in a lucky shot somewhere.

In other "WTF" story lines, how in the hell did the Iron Islands/Euron build a 1,000-ship armada (the "greatest in the history of Westeros!") in the span of what seems like a few months?!?

There was no mention of "thousands". I'd like to think that that is implied but I rewatched the scene. It's not... Even if it is thousands of them, why is it some sort of discovery to have a high powered ballista in a Medieval arsenal? I just can't help but think that's some lazy ass shit right there. I know what the "secret weapon" is from the books. There's no reason they couldn't introduce it. It's more believable than the "greatest armada in the history of Westeros" produced out of thin air.... Which is another heaping pile of warm dung to deal with this season.

I feel like I'm not only pissing on peoples cheerios here but also pissing in some Frosted Flakes and honey bunches of oats. I get the loyalty to the show but *so far* this is weak GoT. I hope it improves.

Yeah, I rewatched it last night, and realized I completely made that up. I guess my mind was filling the gaps, trying to make sense of using a ballista against a speedy, flying target.

The secret weapon from the books hasn't been introduced to the show... yet. But it's something Euron possesses.

Since Jon is about to head south, guess he will miss Bran again, who I assume is heading to Winterfell. I'm looking forward to Bran revealing Jon's parents.

The show has gone completely off the rails. The big moments are great, and I still enjoy watching, but the story is absurd at this point.

For me this was by far the weakest episode of the season. Not as bad as some episodes from season 4 and 5. They took the nonsensical travel times, and multiplied them by 10

The story was always absurd (does everyone travel with a tailor?) but last night's episode was full blown silly. Still fun to watch, but the last couple of seasons of shortchanged character development for plot advancement and fan service.
