UCI at the Horns in a few minutes, followed later today by Louisville vs Vandy.

On tap tomorrow is Tech vs TCU and Ole Miss vs Virginia. Look for Astros' draft picks Derek Fisher and Aaron Greenwood in the latter.

I hope that UT doesn't come to regret all of those early-inning LOBsters.

That was deeply unsatisfying. At least 12 LOBsters, I think. And somehow the UCI pitcher went the distance.

Greenwood gives up winning run as Ole Miss loses to Virginia. Fisher was I believe 0-4 in the game. Rebs vs Red Raiders in elimination game on Tuesday afternoon while the Cavaliers play TCU in winners bracket game that evening.

Again, Horns in their own elimination game tomorrow afternoon.

Base hit wins the pitchers duel (then again, *all* games at TDAP are pitchers duels) for the Rebels and sends Tech home.

Ole Miss plays Thursday night versus the loser of tonight's TCU/UVA game.

Longhorns rematch with UCI tomorrow night.

For those complaining about TDAP, may I direct you to Minnesota coach John Anderson's comments at the Big Ten Tourney presser? He made the point that had they known the impact of the bats, they would have changed the design of the stadium.  Was on the committee.

FYI, the NCAA has adopted a lower seam baseball for 2015 in order to generate more offense:

Quote
The raised-seam ball has a seam height of .048 inches, compared to .031 inches for the flat-seamed ball. The flatter-seam height is consistent with the balls used in minor league baseball, but still higher than what is used in the major leagues.

Not so fast.

Sorry to link to another message board, but I could not find this anywhere else: http://www.csnbbs.com/thread-692666.html

Long and short of it is that ESPN's reporter is noting that Schlossnagle's was expressing this opinion well before the game was over.  Considering that TCU has had to play 21 additional innings of baseball thus far in the postseason, isn't it hard to blame him?

Those 3 or 4 innings last night when the UVa and TCU closers were facing off were really something. The UVa guy's combination of fastball and slider were practically unfair.

Lot of credit to the UCI first baseman there for watching Johnson round the bag rather than watching the ball rattle around in the LF corner.

Just as a note, as a career first baseman, that was one the first things that you learn on extra base hits. Watch the runner step on first, then react to the play.

Yeah, but is there really a GOOD way to go out? Hard to be upset at what that team did. One of the guys on Shaggy posted a side-by-side comparison of more than a dozen team stats between 2013 and 2014 and they were better, but they weren't a ton better this season. This team just had a lot of fight and peaked at a great time. That was a run all Texas fans can (and should) be proud of.

Who was the last big-time MLB quality hitter Augie brought to Texas? Does Brandon Belt count?

I understand why they play the way they do but damn, bring in some bats please.

The problem in college baseball right now is that they so deadened the bats that you can't tell much any more. They over reacted.

I disagree...I think pitching should dominate, but I realize that I'm in the minority on that, especially when college baseball, in general, struggles to attract fans.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. However, the best pitchers tend to be taken early in the amateur draft and sign, much more so than hitters. College baseball is primarily pitching thin, so hitters theoretically should dominate and did until they so deadened the bats that you can't tell any more.

It's not the bats alone.  It's the combination of the bats and baseballs.  The baseballs are changing next year with the expectation that the offense should go up.

I don't disagree with you. However, I think that they went overboard. Look at the dramatic drop in home runs, particularly in the CWS. When a burly hitter solidly squares a ball up and it doesn't travel out of the yard, something is wrong.

This will never happen as 1) college baseball is too much in bed with the metal bat manufacturers, and 2) quality wood bats would be prohibitively expensive for all but the top college programs, creating a competitive disadvantage for smaller schools.
