Dead at 52.

"The Day I Tried to Live" is still one of my favorite songs.

Well, I've been watching
While you've been coughing
I've been drinking life
While you've been nauseous
And so I drink to health
While you kill yourself
And I've got just one thing
That I can offer
Go on and save yourself
And take it out on me

Equal parts fuck you, fuck me and let me help you.  Genius.

Also, I still get amped by his Bond theme.
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

Knox... that is also my favorite Soundgarden song (narrowly edging out "Rusty Cage")... but the whole album is so good (though admittedly MTV/radio killed Black Hole Sun for me two decades ago). "Fell on Black Days" and "Superunknown" are also stand outs for me.

A year or so ago I came across some old CDs that had wound up in a drawer at my mom's house. Badmotorfinger was one of them. That whole album was pretty damn good - Rusty Cage, Jesus Christ Pose, Outshined, etc. I also was rather fond of Birth Ritual, from the Singles soundtrack.

I never really got around to checking out his later solo stuff, or the Tom Morello collaboration, whatsitcalled.
