Rotowire probably has that wrong, and I didn't catch it until you pointed it out. Thanks!

Yeah, RFer smashed into the wall catching Altuve's almost home run.  About a foot or two short.  Looked like a shoulder injury, and he left the game.

Altuve hit a shot to the wall in right center (about 375'). Saunders went back on it hard and caught the ball at the bottom of the yellow HR stripe. Great catch, but looks like the wall might have snuck up on him about a half-foot before he expected it to, as he hit the wall with some force. Mariners broadcasters speculate that he might have injured his collar bone or shoulder.

Wow. Dominguez with a diving knock-down of a shot down the 3B line (looked like it might've been a catch for a sec), quick recovery, and throw from the knees to get the runner by a step (2nd out).

End 2: HOU 3, SEA 0.

Seattle D with an Astros' special in shallow CF, and a hustling Castro makes it to 2B (Scorer calling it an error on CF, but I'd imagine that'll be changed to a 2B as the SS lost the ball and CF was charging hard to pick it up).

The one benefit to living in Iowa and being an Astros fan now is that I rarely will get blacked out any longer.  With the Astros in the NL, I'd get blacked out for St. Louis, Chicago, Minneapolis, and I think Cincinnati.

I think it has literally never been enforced.

Not at the MLB level anyway. Hey Jacksonian, aren't they doing something to try to enforce that at the MiLB level?

Yeah, a cheap shot, only crueler.  But what else can you do with Wallace?  You feel for the guy.  You'd like him to succeed.   He's not, and will not.  It's horrible to watch, but there you go.

You know what?  Watching Wallace is like watching Ensberg, except with Ensberg there was success, not just expectation.

Wow. Dominguez with a diving knock-down of a shot down the 3B line (looked like it might've been a catch for a sec), quick recovery, and throw from the knees to get the runner by a step (2nd out).

Pena checks his swing on the 0-2 pitch but HPU Wally Bell didn't see it that way (and didn't ask for help, drawing some jawing from Pena) - strikeout (3rd Astros K on the evening). JD with a fly out to shallow center to end T5 with HOU up 5-1.

Neither here nor there, but those 25 runs scored last night were the most scored in Safeco history (previous high: 24 in SEA vs. NYY game).

McTaggart had nice run down of the records set last night. But not that one.

The Astros offense Tuesday night produced many franchise team notes:
• 22 hits: last, 8/3/10 at STL (22H)
• 16 runs: last, 8/3/10 at STL (18R)
• 5 homers: last, 9/16/09 at CIN (5HR)
• 40 total bases: last, 9/9/00 at CHC (44TB)
• 6 runs in inning: last, 9/10/11 at WSH (3rd, 6R)
• 6 runs in 1st inning: last, 8/30/08 vs. STL (8R)
• 7 hits in inning: last, 9/10/11 at WSH (3rd, 7H)
• 7 hits in 1st inning: last, 7/19/10 at CHC (7H)

There were also several Astros set or tied their career highs:
• Altuve ties career high w/ 4 hits (6/5/12 vs. STL)
• Altuve records career high 4 RBI
• Carter records career high 4 hits
• Carter ties career high w/ 3 RBI (7/25/12 at TOR)
• Carter records career high 2 HR
• Gonzalez ties career high w/ 3 hits (4/29/12 vs. PIT)

Shoppach with a long double off the yellow stripe in LF scoring 1 (on base via HBP - foot). JD had a shot at that one, but just missed it.  UMPs in to review the call now (helod up the 2B call).  HOU 5, SEA 2 B5 (1 on, 1 out).

Dominguez thrown out at 3B after putting one off the wall in straight away CF (was watching the ball on his way to 1B, should've never tried for 3B).  T8, 1 out, none on with Gonzalez coming to the dish.

/golf clap/ I look for a roster move there soon.

Wallace seems to be the favorite whipping boy to date this season.  But, I hope he figures it out while he is still with the Astros.  I think the kid is not going to miss every pitch he sees.

Good night OSF, Budgirl, RB, pots. Have a good rest of the night.

When you're going .048 and embarrassing the fuck out of yourself in the act, you're going to attract some negative attention. Wallace isn't just missing pitches. He's taking pitches that he should have swung at and swinging at pitches that he couldn't hit with a 2 by 4. He's badly overmatched right now. It's been a long time since I've seen a big league hitter this lost at the plate.

I'm indebted to all you folks who have managed to stay up with the team on the first West Coast trip. Sadly, I've been up working but unable to listen to the games or chime in, so I want to say thank you to you all for your work in the GZ and especially for the recappers, who are continuing to kick ass daily.

They were pretty much all overmatched last week.  I'm not saying something needs to be done, but I don't know that sending Wallace down is the right thing.  How does that effect his options and whatnots?

I assume that this reference is to me; it's okay to call me out, but I do object to being called moody when nothing could be farther from the truth. I'm glad that Pena has gotten some hits lately. However, I still maintain that his long, slow swing won't consistently catch up to a hittable fastball. I'd throw him nothing but high fastballs until he either proves that he can handle that pitch or he starts laying off of it. If you throw him anything else, I believe that you are doing him a favor.

In what respect? My opinion on Carlos Pena? What do you think about my conclusion, and if it differs from mine, how so, and how would you pitch him? I had Pena for awhile last season on my fantasy team and watched a fair number of his AB's until I dropped him. I see little difference from last season so far. High fastballs is how I would approach him.

He's not talking about your opinion on Carlos Pena.  He's talking about your over the top pessimism and over analysis in general.  For example, Pena has always been a streaky hitter prone to strikeouts.  He has hit under .200 in 2 of the last 3 years. You don't need to tell us how you would pitch Pena and make over the top bold proclamations that he's done based on one game or week.

I understand your position; I'm just trying to be honest and not provocative in any way. If I was "over the top" in my pessimism, then I apologize. I just thought that if I can figure out how to pitch a guy just from watching him from the television, big league team scouting and pitching should already know that. Now, knowing it and executing it are two different kettles of fish. I will attempt to refrain from posting some of my opinions.

Oh, I get it.  He's not just failing.  He's failing embarrassingly.  When someone is that lost, not just not getting it done, it's hard to really make fun of him.  It's not his fault Luhnow won't send him down.

Speaking of rough times at the dish, Wallace isn't the only one having difficulties thusfar:

Pedro Alvarez: 2-30, 14 Ks, .076 AVG;
Aaron Hicks: 2-35, 16 Ks, .057 AVG;
Russel Martin: 1-23, .043 AVG;
Ryan Hanigan: 1-23, .043 AVG;
Yunel Escobar: 3-30, .100 AVG;
Todd Helton: 2-21, .095 AVG.

Still hoping he turns things around!

Seattle D with an Astros' special in shallow CF, and a hustling Castro makes it to 2B (Scorer calling it an error on CF, but I'd imagine that'll be changed to a 2B as the SS lost the ball and CF was charging hard to pick it up).

The error was changed to a double by the Official Scorer (per Brownie).
