Opening Day 2016
« on: November 02, 2015, 09:42:27 pm »
I got the email from the Astros. Opening Day tickets are on sale to us.

Quote
On Monday, we begin selling Group Tickets for the 2016 season. As a renewal group, you have priority during the week of (November 2 – November 6). This is a great opportunity to secure the best seats at the lowest price possible. In the past, our early group buyers have saved up to 31% over traditional ticket buyers.

I'm sure we'll need at least 20 to qualify. Opening Day is Monday, April 11 vs. the Royals. Who's in?
I'm in love with rock and roll and I'll be out all night.

In for a pair. I'd like to sit somewhere 317-321 if that's possible.

In for two or maybe three. It will be three generations, though and I worry a bit about the youngest.

Holy crap...you mean you're finally gonna join us for an official OWA event?  We were beginning to wonder if you really exist.  Now if we can get strosrays on board, we'll clear up two mysteries.

I don't have the final word on this but my credit card has been charged, so we've got tickets. There are a lot more season ticket buyers now, and guess what? They're buying the cheaper seats in the 300s so we're probably going to be in Section 307 in the left field corner. Those are $45 each. She's going to monitor the seats closer to home for us, but they'll probably be around $75 if I understood her correctly.

This is the point in the thread where I explain that I'm not able to make Opening Day and offer up my tickets to the person or persons who did not get on the train in time.

I'm very pleased that Mr. and Mrs. EastTexAstro will stand in my place and stead on OD. While I'm disappointed that my travels back and forth to Louisiana to help my mother have caused me to miss OD, I couldn't have picked better replacements. RB, please make note of that.

I'm definitely still in, but if there are meet up plans beforehand, that will be fluid for me based upon Mrs. MM's work schedule.

I don't remember the exact particulars, but didn't we have to sit around outside the TT for a while because they didn't open as early as they used to?

They opened at one but I don't remember why. Their Yelp page says they open at ten.

Yeah, we had to have at least one goblet of ice cold Shiner beforehand, so me, Sphinx, Ron and chuck and family had to sit around the front porch for like two hours.

No Tall Texan?  No Spanish Flowers?  You're not setting a very good example for your son.

noon at Alice's Tall Texan, 4904 N Main St for frosty goblets of Shiner Bock, one of the best values you'll ever find. Cash only.

1pm at Spanish Flowers, 4701 N Main St for cabrito, etc.

3pm(ish) at Flying Saucer, 705 Main St.

5pm(ish) waltzing on down to the MMPUS

I'd really, really, really prefer to hand out tickets at the three stops BEFORE getting to the ballpark. If it's at all possible, please meet me at one of those places to get yours.

It's at Studewood and 13th, just a few blocks from the TT. You can go Main to Studewood and turn left. Go down to 13th and its on the right.

This seems like an outing that ends up with everyone blacked out by the first pitch. Wish I was there.

Electing to congregate at a bar that is closed will tend to slow the pace down somewhat.

Ya cain't git fooled agin!

I'm looking out the window now and I spot a huge (YUGE!) iguana that has climbed up to the very top of a tree that is swaying around wildly in a furious wind. I wonder what's going on in his little reptilian mind.

I'd like to publicly apologize to Mark for my son's complete inability to leave him alone for the better part of 5-6 innings.

When we got to the car he said, "Who was that guy sitting next to me?"  The phrase "a guy I know from the Internet" sounds a lot stranger when you say it out loud.

Sorry to miss out on the festivities this year.  Work intervened, and wasn't able to make SF.  My son enjoyed his third straight OD, though.   He's really into Rasmus for some reason.

I'm also weirdly into Rasmus. The guy plays hard, hits dingers, and has this strange fuckugly charisma about him. Shirtless, goggled, beer-soaked Rasmus is *the* image of the 2015 Astros season. The guy is weirdly close to "face of the team" status in my eyes.

I don't think they consider Phenix City part of South Alabama, but that place definitely has some charm.

It's not really even Alabama.

I grew up in Alabama about 45 minutes from Phenix City and we called it West Columbus, Ga.  It even operated on Eastern Time.  It is the cousin you claim only because you have to because the last name is the same.
