No you won't because there would be possible reprocussions. There are no reprocussions for your actions when you're in the stands.  You bought your ticket, and you can do whatever you want, regardless of the appropriateness.

You don't have kids do you?

No, I don't have kids but I'm the oldest of 4 boys so my brothers follow what I do all the time. I'll boo alot more often at games then my dad. Matter of fact, I'm very vocal at games. But when I was younger my Dad never told me I couldn't boo. He would ask me what the hell I was doing if i was booing Biggio for striking out or something along those lines, not that I did. But he wouldn't scold me for booing Purp.

This is absolutely true, and it gives a horrible example to impressionable children at the games. Usually those who boo are unshaven sorts who live in their parents' basements. I have had to explain booing to my children. You don't boo a player. You don't boo an umpire. You don't boo the other fans. You just don't boo. Period.

Wait until your sheltered kids get to college.

Booing, in this context, is the attempt by the fans to interject themselves into the game.  Fans have no perspective, nor do they face any consequences for their behavior.  It is gutless and rude to anonymously boo a man who is just trying to do his job.  Especially when the booing is inappropriately interjected into a ceremony meant to highlight Jeff Bagwell.  It was the same at the All Star game.  Houston fans are children with no self control.  (Or, what Zipp wrote.)

But you can't place being a professional athlete in the same context as just another job. It is not just another job. Their job is to entertain the fans and ultimately make money for MLB. Just like actors back in old englands time. They would be booed to no return for performing a poor job. Maybe that isn't the best analogy but regardless they are performing a job where the fans perespective is important. If the fans didn't approve or stopped supporting they wouldn't even have a job or a job making hundreds of thousands of dollars. They aren't a cahsier messing up checking food at the register getting booed by people in line. They are performing a unique job.

Despite me being an idiot to half the people here I was just curious if anyone has ever been on the field for Batting Practice. We got 4 passes for on the field BP on Wednesday. My dad was AstroJack during the 1981-82 season and Mike Acosta, ticket sales guy was in need of some old mascot pictures so my Dad compiled some for him and emailed them over to him and he gave us that as a gift. I'm just curious what anyones experience is with this? I know he told me you can't ask for autographs, but I'm more intrested just to meet some of the guys and shake their hands and what not.

i guarantee you he is a regular on orangebloods.com, which has the stupidest posters ever collected in one site.

What the fuck does orangebloods have to do with anything? I just checked it out and it's a longhorns site. Don't get upset because people boo. That is what chaps my ass about some fans. Classy is great and dandy but booing is apart of sports. Go follow your favorite golfer if you want it quiet. It's quite ironic Jim, how you bitch on and on about being a classy individual yet you sit here behind your keyboard and call people motherfuckers like its going out of style. You epitomize ZERO class. I'm at 80-90% of the games so I'd gladly meet up with you at a game and hear you talk about how booing Tim Pupura for a brief moment during Bagwell's ceremony makes Houston Astros fans- "classless idiots who probably belong to orangebloods"

This is common knowledge.. Pupura has primarily dealt with minor league development etc.. before becoming GM.

You're a fucking retard. End of list.

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. The guy has had 3 years to completely revamp a severely depeleted farm system. Its going to take at least another year or two to see if the guys he drafted in his 3 go rounds will amount to anything in the bigs.

In conclusion, go fuck yourself.

Purpura has been dealing with the farm system for a lot longer then 3 years.. He has been in on decisions for awhile now. Not just since 2004.

Talk Zone / Re: classless MFers
« on: August 27, 2007, 03:23:29 pm »
It's perfectly acceptable to boo Pupura.  He sits and does nothing all day to improve the team. The farm system is dry and it doesn't help when he can't figure out a way to get our top draft picks signed. What the hell is the point of drafting people you don't plan on getting signed. If it is one person your not able to come to terms with then it is *somewhat* understandle but when it is multiple players unsigned something needs to be done. Also, when the hell else are you suppose to express your displeasure. Pupura sucks- plain and simple, he screwed us in multiple ways and quite frankly the bottom line= wins. Do you think fans and NY would be okay with the piece of shit effort Tim Pupura put up on a day to day basis? Do you think that would fly in Boston or Chicago? No- and they sure as hell would let it be known. You can't win with gutless people like Tim Pupura at the helm- and the booing of him in front of a sell out crowd honoring Jeff Bagwell might have just pushed Drayton to give him a swift kick in the ass. He probably already had his mind made up that he was going to cut him and scraps loose but I think the fans assisted his decision over the course of the past couple months.

I'm not high on Woody and I didn't particularly like the signing. Hopefully he can keep his ERA below 5 and just eat innings. As far as Sampson--He's a gamer. I love his ability. I think he is going to win 14+ games. & Jennings has got to get back and perform.

After tonight it looks like Lane should at least get a look in CF more then once every other series. In Gars mind he is obviously a better defensive centerfielder since he brings him in as a D-replacement when he can.

Talk Zone / Re: Astros early season road record...
« on: April 19, 2007, 10:10:10 pm »
I think Lee has been a huge difference no doubt but the critical part has been just timely hitting. For example the past 2 nights have found late rallies in the 8th inning. Everett hit the big 2 run homer late in Chicago. Well, the Phillies series...they just suck. I think last year when trailing after 8 innings we were something like 1-80.

Hey guys,

I was wondering who would be interested in possibly buying an OWA shirt if I got them printed up. I would design 3-5 graphics and post it here for everyone to see and we can decide on the best one to roll with. I think this would be nice to wear to games and stuff so you can indentify fellow OWAs and to promote the site.

A little info about me, I'm currently a senior at Pearland High School here in Houston and have 2 more months to go. I'm working on whatever business ideas possible to help make some money to attend college at UT- I've already been accepted. I've had season tickets to the Astros for 4 years now...first 2 years in Crawford 103 and the past 2 in section 105 right along the rail. You can email me at [email protected], send me a private message or post here.

Thanks, Joe Haas

O say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

I am not sure what you mean by this statement.

The lineup wouldn't be hurt by having an extra lefty in it. Not that I want Ensberg to sit but it would be good from that standpoint.

Talk Zone / Re: Batting order thread
« on: March 28, 2007, 02:34:47 pm »
My point exactly. Biggio isn't getting any younger so I dont anticipate Everett to have an abundance of situations where he can lay down a bunt.

48
Talk Zone / Re: Batting order thread
« on: March 28, 2007, 02:17:21 pm »
Are you serious?  I'm not arguing that he might do well batting second, but his whole problem is he's too damn relaxed, watching hittable pitch, after hittable pitch roll by like he's "Morgan at Bat"...with the same result.

OBP is not all a 2 hitter is responsible for.

Yeah, I suppose "more relaxed" wasn't the best way to put it. But I definitely think that he will be able to just be more loose with his swing. As long as he's not taking the same approach he did for the World Series I'm fine.

Talk Zone / Re: Batting order thread

Same situation as a couple years ago. He batted 2 and I think he led the league in sacrafice bunts before his wrist injury but we dont have somebody like Ichiro leading off giving him all those opportunities. Hes better off flying out at 7th and letting Ausmus end the inning with a ground ball double play.

Ensberg is going to bounce back. The #2 hole will suit him fine. He can take a more relaxed approach to the plate with Lance behind him. Whatever the course of action is...everett #2 is a problem.

I think we can bring back the core group of guys and add a right handed power hitting outfielder as well as another lefty in the pen to hopefully go along with Tmiller. Other then that I'd like to bring in a veteran starter...someone similar to a Ron Villone to eat innings for us in the 4 or 5 whole. Something we desperately needed this year. We had great talent in there this year and we'd get the amazing games every once in awhile IE TBuck against the Rangers a couple times but too often we were shelled and we just can't afford to completely lose games like that. Somebody like a Livan Hernandez would fit the bill well I think.

Just walk Pujols every single time- It'll frustrate the hell out of him if he never gets the opportunity to hit!

And Miller had to get that ball over the plate to avoid Pujols coming up and I don't understand why he decided to throw soft shit instead of come in with the heater (He did however get screwed on the 1-2 pitch that was right down the plate!!!)

Yeah there is a curfew rule & if we went over it then they would suspend the game until the following day. There is not a set time per se it just depends on the specific city. Pittsburgh could have a 2AM curfew and Houston could have a 4AM but either way the city curfew is definitely later then 1 AM.

Having extra security doesn't bother me at all, it's them saying there going to throw people out when everyone was being very tame as far as what they were saying. For example: Some guy was saying, " Barry- What size hat you wear?, 10 1/2!!!" & He was threatened to be thrown out if he kept it up and I was like you have got to be kidding me. That is incredibly soft and mild. I can only imagine what he heard in Philly and what he will hear in other north east stadiums throughout the course of the year.

I say we forget the lefty idea since we don't have a left hander who can get anyone out. Look at the DBACKs- their bullpen has been one of the best in baseball ERA wise so far this season and they don't have a single lefty in the pen. It's an over rated idea, you can either get guys out or you can't and as of now are lefties can't.

No, because every time he comes in he gives up a hit. He makes 2 pitches every time he appears and always gives up a hit then you see Gallo flipping the ball in his hand in frustration followed by Garner yanking him- all he does is put Wheels and Qualls in terrible positions.

It took a beautiful relay throw to get him by a hair.  I don't see how it can be looked at as a "really terrible decision".  It may have been the wrong decision (because he was thrown out), but the risk/reward of the situation made it a good move, IMO.

I disagree because if Lance gets a base knock, or willy for that matter, he will pretty much score from 2nd on anything. It basically gave us at least 2 opportunities to knock him in. Rickie Weeks did a similar thing today, it was a different scenario but he was caught trying to make it to 3rd with 0 outs in the inning and it came back to hurt him.

We had so much money tallied up from the season last year in our season ticket account, if you didn't know- the Astros, last year, let you sell your tickets for double face through Astros.com. But it is sort of like store credit. So we had enough in the bank to nearly buy 4 seats so we went ahead and did that. Astros Account is already up to 1700 this season. Sold a pair of Crawfords for 150 a piece for a Cub game later in the year because this year the Astros allow you to sale them for 5 times face. But basically why we have it in 2 places is, originally we bought season tickets in 2004 and had 2 seats in the Crawford but after 81 games ( probably attending 50 or so of them) it's nice to have a different location) so in 2005 we retained 2 of our Crawford seats in section 103 and then bought 2 up in the Club level (233) It was okay but we didn't really like it up their, It wasn't as loud and obnoxious a crowd as I like! Also it looked into the sun which sucked. So this year we slid over to 100 in Crawford Row 3 which are nice and then Right on the rail of 105. I don't know if you remember when Wandy was in trouble a few nights ago and got JD Drew to fly out to foul territory and Preston Wilson caught it and banged into the wall along the foul line, well that's where my 105's are. But we've only sat in 100 one time this year- their basically as a profit maker, because I'm sure you all know the demand for tickets during the playoff run last year. But all in all, it's basically just to switch it up but since we love 105 so much I doubt there will be much sitting in 100!

The Giants come to Minute Maid on May 15-17th and Barry is 2 homers away from Ruth and 3 from Breaking Ruths mark and moving onto sole place of 2nd all time. What odds do you give him hitting it there, also you think that ball will have any financial significance? I was thinking it probably won't. I have season tickets in 2 locations, Crawford and section 105, I normally always sit in 105 but I was thinking of sitting in my Crawford box seats for one of the game but does Bonds really have a snow balls chance in hell of going opposite field with a ball? I always envision him having all his homers going to right field but over the course of this year he has had a couple of his homers go to left.

But where my seats our at MMPUS I could see the play develop where Lance attempted to steal. & it wasn't as bad as it looked. I've been watching the Clark-fest fireworks of the past few days and figure I'll go ahead and throw my hat into the fray.  I happened upon the BFT back in 2001, made a few posts using this same handle, and then got away a little bit.  I think I may have posted once or twice on the old version of this site, and I've been back and reading regularly for the past two seasons.

Grew up in Houston, but for now I am holding down the fort in Nashville, TN.  As far as I can tell after two years here, Nashville is a complete baseball wasteland.  The Atlanta Braves yukfest seems to die out somewhere in the Smoky Mountains, and the collective stench of Cincinnati and St. Louis don't quite make it this far.  The main activities in the spring and summer around here seem to be watching the U. of Tennessee's spring practice and then waiting on college football season to arrive.  College baseball is the one saving grace, with Vanderbilt fielding a solid team with a beautiful stadium and the SEC being the best college baseball conference in the country.

(As an aside, if you want a couple of names to remember, think Pedro Alvarez and David Price.  Both play for Vanderbilt - Price is a dominating left-handed pitcher and Alvarez was hitting moonshots into the upper tank at Yankee Stadium before turning down the Yankees and Red Sox to come to school.  He's National Hitter of the Week after going long 6 times in 4 games)

So anyway, I might start chiming in from time to time (hopefully 2+ years lurking is an appropriate probationary period), but my main weakness is that I rarely get to actually watch the games.  So, I appreciate the insight provided by the board and I'll try my best not to suck.

Get MLB extra innings if you can, then you don't have to worry about only be able to watch the braves on TBS!

For the most part you're right, his throwing has been good but other then that ground ball that went right under his glove he has fielded well. But when you see Burke play he is a lot better due to his tremendous range and arm. Burke can make plays deep in the whole behind second base and have enough on his throws to get people out.

Imagine what would happen if there was a USC story and a Duke story on the same day as a Red Sox-Yankees game.  I think their satellite would explode.

Soft fly ball.... It's up to the big bats in the 9th to get a couple runs. We need to Lance to get on and give Preston & Lane a chance to go yard.

It's their cheap ass front office that doesn't want to spend any money. But they finally made a good trade this off season in getting Bronson Arroyo. They were log jammed in the outfield and getting a quality pitcher was a valuable move to them. Bronson has already paid off with two good starts, and two homeruns- 2 more then Wily Mo has!

I think Roy Oswalt, as long as he stays healthy, has a realistic chance to win 25-30 games this year. But their is a factor in getting pumped up and having the players adrenaline rushing. A player will perform better, in most cases, in front of a loud, riveting crowd. It's the world series, people need to get off their ass and if they don't then they don't need to bitch at people who do.

197
Drayton won't sell shit! But as far as I'm concerned I like this team, I love this team- It was such a fun year but we need to add a damn bat. I think the Grocer needs to Pony Up and field a better hitting team.

It just wasn't the same last night at the game, besides the fact that my feet and hands were cold as shit the crowd noise just wasn't there. It wasn't because we weren't being as loud it's because of the damn roof. I prefer the roof to be open for regular season games but for the playoffs open it up. And it damn well better be open tonight. With that said we have our work cut out for us...big time. I think we have to give Pettitte and Roy O a chance. Just GET BACK TO CHICAGO and will have a shot at this!

Okay time to move on... How does stack up for games 3-5? We have Roy O going game 3 which I feel very confident about...He is an absolute no bullshit kind of guy and I can't think of anyone I'd rather have pitching Tuesday. Then Backe on Wednesday and then what's the game plan for Thursday? Will it be Clemens? That's what I'm worried about. I just don't know what will be able to get out of a possible Wandy start. His control is really nerveracking. I know he didn't let any of the walks hurt him but he had 5 of them in game 1! Thoughts...
