if there is such a think i want to join. the way he timed that leap caught the ball and still managed to maintain possession of the ball was amazing. his homerun was also a think of beauty. i think this might just work out for the astros
forever is composed entirely of nows

I'm a big fan of #4 the Rainman.  He and Berkman and in sync with their homers, and he seems like guy who plays hard and who works well with the team on the field.

Hell yeah!!! I loved the Preston signing. I'm a huge fan of his and he's quickly becoming a favorite. He looks re-energizred to play for a winning team since he has yet to set foot in a playoff game!

Honestly, (like we wouldn't be honest while posting on this board) I was OK with the signing (like they would ask for my opinion on anything more than my choice of beer at the ballpark). No big history of trouble, possible injury-low-risk-good-reward situation...

Possible ballpark related stat questions.

After reading about his situation with his son and seeing how he seems to be a pretty good guy, hey, he fits in pretty good. He seems to be fitting in with the offense quite well, though it is too early to tell just what kind of impact he will have for the season.

How he really gets along with the team and what kind of person he is, I will probably never know, and that is fine. At this point, he has been a nice addition to the team and I look foreward to watching him this year. Good luck to him. I hope for the best.

Yeah, you never know how a player will hold up over the season, and the first week probably isn't the best indicator.  In Rainman's case, I hope the first week is indicative.  Obviously it is my wish that J-Lay picks up the pace here.  It's good that he's drawing walks, but it's bad whenever he decides to actually swing.  He was a solid contributor last season, and I hope he can do that and more this year.

Preston was just on Baseball Tonight for a quick spot.  He just basically said that he's adjusting to the friendly confines of MMPUS.  He went on to say that the guys are helping him learn how to play left field, with the roof open and closed, and how to read deflected balls off the scoreboard.

Jim, and several others, pointed out Lane's tendencies last year. When he is hot, he will be one of the hottest players you will see. When he is cold, he looks terrible.

I hope I understood that correctly.

In such a short time frame, I am at least encouraged that he has gotten some walks, but we may be seeing some frustration in some of his bad swings.

I('m just guessing, though. I know little and have seen 2 games so far. I'm just going off what I have read.

I read in the SI baseball preview issue that during the offseason, Wilson himself called up Purpura and said he wanted to play in Houston.  In 15 mins they had a deal done.

This may have already been mentioned here, but I'd never heard of such a move before.  Interesting stuff, which in my mind makes the guy even more likable.
"Ground ball right side, they're not gonna be able to turn two OR ARE THEY, THROW, IS IN TIME!!! WHAT AN UNBELIEVABLE TURN BY BRUNTLETT AND EVERETT, AND THEY CUT DOWN MABRY TO END THE GAME, AND THE ASTROS LEAD THIS NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES THREE GAMES TO ONE!!!!!"

A few years back, I sat in the outfield at a Braves-Rockies game with Wilson in CF. It was in Atlanta, and a crowd of drunken, machismo Atlanta fans started yelling, "Hey Wilson, you SUCK!" and various other insults. Not a big deal, nothing everyball player doesn't hear. But the thing that impressed me was that Wilson laughed at many of them, and he even turned around and smiled and waved to them a couple times. When he caught a ball for a 3rd out, he jogged over and tossed the souvenir to the fans who were screaming, "You SUCK!"

Not a huge deal, but it made me appreciate that he had a sense of humor about it.

Here you go:
Quote:

Easygoing, personable, Wilson has quickly fit in with the Astros, but clubhouse pundit Berkman asks, who wouldn't fit in with this team?

"This is such a great clubhouse, I've never seen a guy not fit in here," Berkman said. "Even guys like the irascible Jeff Kent and Carl Everett, who were supposedly hard to be around, have gotten along all right here.

"It's hard not to get along in here. Ever since I've been here, it has been a good bunch of guys."
