Compliments of Pravata: Gary Gaetti has been studying tape from the 2003 season, when Wilson had a breakout year for the Colorado Rockies....
Gaetti noticed Wilson's stance was completely different than the one he uses now. Back then, he had a much more open stance, and he didn't move his head as much after the ball left the pitcher's hand.
"He didn't have as much in-and-out movement," Garner said. "He still moved his head a lot, but his head moved into his swing, and it stayed in the swing. Now, his head's in and it's coming back. ..."
During batting practice, Gaetti said, Wilson's mechanics are close to perfect. Actual games, however, are a different story.
"Either you're not seeing it out of the pitcher's hand, or you're moving your head when you're swinging," Gaetti said. "You're doing something mechanically wrong that's causing you to do that."
Anyone else think that Wilson looked improved at the plate to night. Only saw three of his ABs, but he put good wood on all three...all right up the shoot too. Hopefully he's nearing one of those streaks again, just in time to balance things out in our lineup as Bidge, Berkman and Ensberg are due to cool off for a spell.
