Nationals @ Astros – An Infestation of Nats!

Posted on May 6, 2008 by MRaup in Series Previews

Minute Maid Park

Well well well, back to .500 again. A 3 game sweep of the Hothouse Brew Crew with a glimpse of what could be with the high-octane offense WadeSmith assembled has the Astro Nation State County Metro-Area couple of blocks around Minute Maid Park buzzing. Lets hope this isn’t just another fleeting glimpe of above-parism before we fall back in to Pirate-esque suckiness again.

Did you ever put a lot of faith in someone who seemed like they were worthy of it, and for the most part after you decided to trust them they pretty much came through?  And you thought, Man, what a good deal.  This person is all right.  Then a situation arose, one of those pivotal moments in life, when all the pressure is on, and this person who had to this point been so strong and true, well. . . they wavered on you?  Or maybe caved in completely, leaving you entirely, unexpectedly on your own?  Ever have that happen?

Way back when, I was matriculating at Caldwood Elementary, third grade year, and me and my running buddy at the time, dude named Rollo, we pretty much had it made.Read More

Astros @ Diamondbacks–The Burkeman Reunion

Astros (12-14) vs Diamondbacks (18-7)

After a 6 game winning streak, the Astros have dropped their last two (fuck the Jakes),  so a change of scenery could do them some good.  So its off to Arizona, the home of the Diamondbacks, the leaders in the NL West.  This series will be the first time that Berkman is reunited with his long-time man love, Chris Burke, who was traded with Quall’s Balls and Gutierrez to Arizona for Ponche.  Expect an extended makeout session at 1B if Burke gets on base, in fact he may pull up at first on what should be a double, just to have some much needed alone time with Lance.  Of course, since Burke is batting .143 for the season, and only .059 against the Astros pitchers he has faced, the chance for liplock may never materialize.Read More

Astros at Reds – Taint Misbehavin’

Posted on April 23, 2008 by Craig in Series Previews

The Astros finished the homestand with three wins and crept out of the NL Central cellar at the same time. The offense is starting to work as planned, at least some of the time, and Roy looks to be back in form, though keep your fingers crossed because ESPN is trying to trade him to the East Coast again. Matsui’s crack finally healed, but Wandy and Bourn tweaked their groins. Somethin’ taint right.

These two games against Cincinnati are the beginning of a week-long roadtrip for the Astros, with three more games against the shitbird Jakes and three against the Snakes. And according to my annual magnet schedule from BudGirl, the Astros are done with the Padres this year. Go back to your pet shop, boys.

Meanwhile, the Dickities are tied with the Astros at 9-12 and they just split a two-game series with the Dodgers. Edinson Volquez has been the ace so far with a 3-0 record and 1.21 ERA, but the Astros won’t see him this series. Edwin Encarnacion is leading the team with five homers. Brandon Phillips is leading the team in strikeouts, 18, which sounds bad until you realize Hunter Pence has 20.Read More

Padres at Astros – Thats What I Call an Attention Getter

Posted on April 21, 2008 by MRaup in Series Previews

Minute Maid Park

This looks disturbingly familiar… Padres and Astros. Seems like we’ve done it before. This time though, instead of playing at Yellowstone Petco Park, we’re playing in the friendly confines. Where it’s always 72 degrees and shady, unless you’re sitting in one of the unfortunate sections that gets to look directly into the sun through the magnifying glass-like windows in left and left center field. If you ARE sitting in those seats, do your best not to burst in to flames. It wouldn’t look nice on my highway… Now you can think about it… But don’t do it.
