Rockies @ Astros – For Those About To Rock (April 18-20, 2008)

Posted on April 17, 2008 by Dark Star in Series Previews

Things To Do In Houston When John Denver’s Dead

Rockies (7-8) at Astros (6-11)

Minute Maid Park
501 Crawford St.
Houston, TX 77002

The Colorado Rockies have been around 15 years now, which is kind of hard for me to believe. I still think of them as an expansion franchise. For some reason, I recall the 1992 expansion draft of the Rockies and the Florida Marlins – who are also beginning their 16th campaign – very clearly. I particularly remember laughing out loud when the Rockies selected Butch Henry and Willie Blair off of the Astros roster (and the Marlins took Ryan Bowen.) As far as the Astros went, that was addition by subtraction, to my mind. Read More

Wednesday, April 16, 6:05 p.m. CDT – my20

Thursday, April 17, 12:05 p.m. CDT – FSN

The upcoming series between the Astros and the pHillies could be an early indicator, yes, even an acid test, of the team’s gelling together–add a little phenolpthalein and see what you get (usually the runs).   Read More

Marlins at Astros – Go fish.

The Astros close the home stand with a three game set against the Marlins and are still looking for their first series win.  The good news is that the Astros have yet to be swept in a series.  But, they are tied with the Nats for the worst record in the National League and are second only to the surprising Tigers for the worst record in all of Major League Baseball.  Let’s see if the Astros can get on a winning streak now that the whining Co-ards, and the sandy vaginas Pujols and La.093 are gone.  You got any Queens?

Cardinals at Astros – Can’t Tell the Players Without a Program

Posted on April 7, 2008 by Craig in Series Previews

Minute Maid Park

Monday, April 7, 6:05 p.m. CDT – FSN-HD
Tuesday, April 8, 7:05 p.m. CDT – FSN-HD
Wednesday, April 9, 7:05 p.m. CDT – my20-HD – whatever that is, it’s in HD

The Astros finally get a home opener after a shitty 2-5 road trip. They didn’t look all that bad; it was more like they were still trying to learn each other’s numbers. The Astros have already picked up a few nagging injuries, like Lance Berkman wrenching his neck when his fleet-footed baserunning caused his head to wag too hard. Plus Ty Wigginton got spiked by a fucking Cub and will have to forfeit the clubhouse thumb-wrestling championship.

On the bright side, the Astros finally have a centerfielder again, one who’s even better than Chris Burke if you can believe that. Michael Bourn already has four steals, with Lightning Lance Berkman right on his heels with two.

The Jakes lost on Opening Day to the defending National League Champion Rukkakies, but have won all five games since. This is their first road trip of the season, and Rick Ankiel is leading the team in homers (3) and RBI (6). Pujols is 6-for-17 (.353) with two doubles. Most of the Jakes’ rotation is on the DL, including Carpenter, Mulder, and Clement.

Astros at Cubs – Time For a Turnaround In Chi Town

Wrigley Field

It’s windy, miserable, and probably going to rain at least once this series. Nice work MLB scheduling games for the Mud n’ Blood in the Northern US of A when they’ve got a perfectly good retractable roof crib back in Houston.

Astros @ Padres – Put On Your Sailin’ Shoes (Mar 31-Apr 3, 2008)

I am overly fond of nautical metaphors anyway, and we are directing our attention presently – those of us able to stay up late enough, that is – to San Diego, after all; what with the hometown Houston Astros opening the 2008 campaign with a four-game set at the home of the San Diego Padres, there in SoCal, fish tacos and all, down by the sea.Read More
