sorry guys....should have known it wasn't front page worthy!

I'm a Red Wings fan (as is Mark), but there are many candidates for adoption. Like stingy defense? Go with Tampa Bay. Breathtaking individual play? Pittsburgh. etc., etc.
After surgery on Monday, I've just been hanging out at the Slack Shack all week recuperating. I've been watching the Showtime series Weeds via Netflix and I'm on season 5 today. Man, what a fucking crazy TV show. Not as good or well done as Deadwood or the Wire but very entertaining, on par with Six Feet Under, especially in terms of dark comedy. I've never had Showtime, so I've missed all of their shows. Next I'm going to watch either Californication or Dexter. Any recs on which of the two is better, more interesting, more compelling...etc?

Both good shows but go with Dexter first.
Bourn, Matsui, Tejada, Berkman, Lee, Pence, Wigginton, Towles, Oswalt
Holy crap!
I just realized that this projected Opening Day lineup includes exactly TWO players out of nine (Lee, Berkman, & Oswalt) who were even on the 25-man roster on Opening Day 2007, and Berkman & Oswalt were the only ones on the the 2006 Opening Day roster.
Although I think this move could be very good (or disasterous), this is not the way I'm used to the Astros working.
An OWA table would be outstanding. And then we would politely be asked to leave.
I guess I should also add the money has to be collected by Dec. 1. Sorry about that.
Duran, Tears and Level 42 are unabashedly in my iPod to this day.
Out of the teams that Houston has played this year, who has most caught your eye? I liked the Angels with the exciting balance throughout their lineup. I don't know if their pitching will hold up, but they impressed me. Also, that Ichiro guy with the Mariners is pretty good.
General Admission too.
Cheo in the first base box is quite the handsome jack too.
Thats good to know. I bet you gals hate Quintero.
You are female, right? NTTAWWT if you ain't.
I wonder what Vick's prison term will be in dog years?
Just curious as to what others think, how would you rate JD and Brownie on a scale of 1-10 as far as broadcasting combos in baseball? If Joe Buck and Tim McCarver are 1's and Vin Sculley and anyone they put next to him are a 10, then I'd give JD and Brownie an 8. I think JD does a good job of filling in the blanks with his stories and corny jokes. He stays reasonably unbias and often keeps things interesting with bizarre stories of Canada. Brownie does a good home run call and did a great job with Biggio's 3000th hit even with the awkward moment when he was thrown out at 2nd.
I thought that was good luck- like getting shit on by a bird.
Lamb is a 'natural' 3B.
Don't know if this has already been done
(maybe several time through) but the question
came up while listening to XM and I thought
would discuss my worst astros loss
1) About 6-7 years ago, astros were playing a doubleheader in Pittsburgh
and I believe they lost the first game due to a blown save (could be wrong)
But I know they ended up losing twilight game on a walkoff grand salami.
(somebody with a better memory or internet research tools please correct me
if I am astray). This was the same day my wife and I were moving from Grand Rapids to Indianapolis (However, the movers we used stole our stuff and held it hostage unless we wired them 3 times the moving fees) I am trying to stay positive with my wife and said at least the stros are going to win & not one FU&*% ing minute later but the pirates get a grande and we look at each other
"this is not going to be our day" it must have been 2001. Do not ask about the movers.
If anybody remembers these games, I would appreciate any thoughts or memoirs (trying to cleanse the soul here)
I know I did not include the 1986 playoffs, 1999 playoffs, game 5 vs. the phillies
etc. (but really sometimes the worst moments are when you don;t expect them)
Arrested Development was one of the best comedies ever (yeah, I said it). It's demise was VERY untimely. It's the only TV show DVDs I've ever bought.
"Buster: Make love in your own hand, Mother!"
Beautiful.
I'm with you! I didn't realize this happened until last night when I sat down to watch Monday's episode, which still said The Black Donnellys on the DVR recording, but was the other shows you mentioned. I don't watch a lot of TV outside of baseball, but this was one of the few shows that I enjoy enough to record. I've read the show was not getting good reviews, which I think is fucking ridiculous. This makes the second show I've fell for that got shit canned, the other being Arrested Development. Oh, well.

I don't think this newest story really means anything, one way or the other. As I understand it: this is still a proposed deal, not final. Congress asked the FCC to get involved, so the FCC basically asked DirecTV to explain themselves. DirecTV has just gotten around to doing so.
Meanwhile, it's 29 days to Opening Day.
DirecTV says "No, really, it's better that you don't have a choice between cable and a dish." Link: DirecTV Rulz
And if you already have Dish Network installed, then you're fucked too. I've had both satellite systems in the past, and I always thought Dish is better. I have Dish now, but can't use Extra Innings because now I'm in the Astros' home market. But if I were still counting on Extra Innings to see Astros games, then MLB would in effect be telling me which satellite provider I had to subscribe to.
And being in the home market is actually worse now, because I have to rely on my shitty local Fox Sports affiliates. The have horrible signals, are never in HD, and their schedule is hit-or-miss. Even with MLBEI's limitations, and there are many, I was able to see more Astros games outside the market than I can now see inside it.
MLB's broadcast and blackout policies are fucked up beyond comprehension. Instead of embracing fans, they alienate us.
Have you checked the FSN altnerate channels? Almost every game was bumped for any stupid local (read UT) or non-local (read Dallas) team. But without fail, the Astros were carried on one of the alternate channels.

At least we can listen to the rest.
Where? I can't find the feed.
The Link
I think 790 has all the spring games.

plus don't forget the devil (Scott Boras) is Zito's agent. So I am pretty sure that Drayton hasn't even given it a second thought.
Not directed necessarily at xxx, but more of a general question... Is the idea that Drayton won't deal with Boras documented somewhere? Or is this based solely on speculation?

You're both off the hook. Mrs Limey went to Humble High.
AKA, 'Umble 'Igh...
It was known as Scumble when I was growing up in early 80s Spring...of course, they could just be a regional thing

Another thing to consider about Humble, their school system has gone down the toilet since I went there.
Hard to believe, just one person can ruin a whole school district like that.

Great snippet in NYCU today about Springer sitting in the stands last night. I sat in that section for the Bruntlett game last year. Is this "common practice" for an active suspended player to sit in the stands? I certainly have never heard of that before. Did any of the Houston cameramen show him during the broadcast last night? I've seen Drayton, Hunsicker, and Purpura in the stands before... never a player though. Also, I wonder where Garner was?

You know what I find funny. I don't have to do searches for pictures of Bradley, people find them for me. I got this one from a friend from church.

I'm really curious to see what happens to ticket prices next year. Probably went to more games this year than I did in my entire life before, and before they got hot the wife and I were tossing around the idea of buying a nice-sized package for 2006. I only imagine that making it to the circus that is the World Series will stoke interest--which can only be good for the team--but I'm hoping they don't price us out of the market.
