Fairchild’s Rough Return, Delome Two Homer Night, Salem’s Two Big Innings & Round Rock Falls Short

Posted on May 22, 2008 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

Some mornings, we go from AAA down. Other days I flip flop it and we go from Low A up. Today, we are going to jump around alittle because the biggest news comes out of Corpus Christi.

Corpus Christi

Tip Fairchild made it back to the mound last night. His arm was pain free but his ego took a beating. He only went one inning hitting two batters, allowed four hits and three walks in the process of giving up 8 earned runs.

“I just didn’t execute any pitches,” said Fairchild, who called it a pain-free outing. “I don’t think I executed one pitch the right way or how I’ve been working on it down in extended spring training.

“I don’t know if it was nerves or being a little too pumped up, but that’s not how I pitch. I’ve got to find myself and go over some things this week before my next start.”

Today, Brian McTaggert has his minor league notebook posted at the Chron. I will intersperse some of his nuggets in this recap.

Round Rock

The Express bounced back from being doubled up the night before by doubling up the Isotopes 8-4. Runelvys Hernandez had another strong outing and Abercrombie and Quintero both homered.

McTaggert reports lack of prospects in Round Rock.

Round Rock

Ray Sadler may his debut at Round Rock memorable Friday night with a homer in his first at bat and gunning down a runner at second to help Round Rock hold on to a 5-4 win.

“This kid is a good defensive player,” Express manager Dave Clark said. “He’s got a very good arm, very accurate.”

Pellengrini Has Hot Debut In Lexington, Salem Shut Out, CC Blows Big Lead But Still Wins, RR Wins

Lexington

Brian Pellegrini hasn’t had much of a chance in pro ball. Injuries cut his 07 season short in Tri Cities and he had started the 08 year in extended spring. So when he got the call up to Lexington and got the start last night, he made the most of it. He went 2-4 with a 3 run homer. Sergio Severino put forth another solid start allowing 3 runs in 5 2/3 innings pitched. The run support from Pellegrini and Colin Delome came after Sergio had left the game. However, there was one more homer to be hit and it wasn’t by the Legends. Final score – 7-6 Hagerstown.Read More

Round Rock was off last night but this morning the paper explains why Fernando Nieve has been hanging out in the Express bullpen.

“We just noticed that he gives us three or four really good innings and things start to go south after that,” Clark said.
