Weekend Update – Elimination Weekend

Posted on June 9, 2008 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

Round Rock

The Express opened the weekend with a nice 10-6 beating of Memphis. Every batter in the line up had at least one hit.

Saturday, the Express, J. R. Towles started to work on getting his confidence back and saw how far he has to go. He went 0-3 with two K’s. Nieve, added some drama but still got the save in the 3-2 Express victory.

The Express booted the ball around in the 8th inning to give up 2 unearned runs. They ended up losing 4-3. Runelvys Hernandez continued his solid pitching giving up one run in 6 innings. He has made 8 straight quality starts and has given up more than one run in only two of those starts.

The Express traded catchers with Houston with Q going up and JR going down.Read More

RR Runs Out Of The Game, Florentino Still Hot, DeLome Leads Lex

Round Rock

The Express ran themselves out of chance to tie the final game against New Orleans.

The promising inning yielded only one run and ended when catcher Humberto Quintero was thrown out at the plate by left fielder Chris Aguila. Quintero was on second base, and he attempted to score on a single by shortstop Edwin Maysonet, despite Express manager Dave Clark giving him a sign to hold up at third base.

“Maybe I could have been a little bit more animated and basically pushed him down,” said Clark. “In the back of my mind, I’m saying he’s not a real speedy guy, but the fact is he went for it and it was a close play at the plate.”

The Express went on to lose 3-2.Read More

Round Rock

The Express has played the New Orleans Zephyrs for 8 straight games. They have one more game against them tonight. I’ll admit I have no idea what the heck a Zephyr is so I used our trusted and infallible source to find out. Best I can tell a Zephyr is either a marshmallow candy from Eastern Europe, the Greek god of the west wind, or a model of a racing dingy. Bottom line is I am sick of reading about them playing the Express and even more sick of seeing them kick the Express around the ball park like they did last night 12-4.Read More

Weekend Update

Salem

Let’s get the weekend wrap up started in the far eastern section of the farm. The Avs played a bunch of ball this weekend.
Friday night, they completed a suspended game from May 6th. It was scoreless when they continued the game. David Qualben was pressed into service because the planned opening pitcher was Chad Wagler but he tweaked his side in warm ups. Qualben didn’t get enough time to warm up but the Winston Salem batters did. They sent the second pitch from Qualben over the fence and that would be enough for the win as Salem only scratched out one hit.Read More
