Round Rock
The Express has played the New Orleans Zephyrs for 8 straight games. They have one more game against them tonight. I’ll admit I have no idea what the heck a Zephyr is so I used our trusted and infallible source to find out. Best I can tell a Zephyr is either a marshmallow candy from Eastern Europe, the Greek god of the west wind, or a model of a racing dingy. Bottom line is I am sick of reading about them playing the Express and even more sick of seeing them kick the Express around the ball park like they did last night 12-4.
“I liked what I saw from both guys,” Clark said. “Both guys hadn’t pitched in a while so fatigue was going to set in early with them.”
Jim R gave some first hand observations of Sosa and King pitching in the Talk Zone last night.
Carlos Hines was released yesterday. Chance Douglass pinch hit in this game. The reports of him being demoted were premature.
Corpus Christi
Rob Cosby hit two solo home runs and Eli Iorg added another. Brad James allowed one run in 6 innings. However, Sammy Gervacio gave up 4 runs in the 8th and the Hooks lost 5-3.
Home runs are great but they are even better with baserunners.
Despite the power production — the Hooks have 12 home runs in their past 11 games — Corpus Christi’s offensive output has been fizzling. During that same 11-game span, the Hooks are hitting a meager .211.
Salem
Jhon Florentino extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a 3 for 5 night. He was a triple shy of the cycle and knocked in 3 runs as the Avs stormed back from a 3-0 hole in the first inning to win 9-4.
Joel Santo started for the Avs. He didn’t allow a hit in the first inning but still gave up 3 earned runs. Walking 6 batters will do that to you. The bullpen responded with 6 2/3 innings of shut out baseball and the offense responded with Parraz, Clemens, Ori, and Quintero all joining Florentino in having multi hit games.
Lexington
Steve Brown tied the game with a 2 run homer in the top of the 9th. However, the Power put together a run in the bottom half to win the game 3-2.
Earlier in the game, the Power got a homer from a kid who has a great baseball name – Zelous Wheeler.
