Walk Offs for RR & Salem, Tri Cites Comes Back, Corpus Starts 2nd Half Right

Posted on June 19, 2008 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

Round Rock walked off with a win thanks to Edwin Maysonet’s 10th inning solo home run to give the Express a 4-3 victory.

“It feels great (especially) after going 0-4 and not helping the team at all in the first nine innings,” Maysonet said.

Chad Reineke had his most effective outing since late May, going 6 innings allowing only 1 run.Read More

G-stros Win to Start Season, Tri Cities Needs Name Tags, Salem Loses in 14, RR Wins Shutou

Lets start our trip around the farm in Greeneville

The G-Stros’ manager has been talking about how excited he is about these players. I got to see it first hand in Kingsport last night. Kyle Greenwalt started his second pro season off with a solid 5 innings pitched. Kody Hinze walked 4 times and had an RBI single while Kyle Miller drove in 3 runs to lead the Astros to a 7-5 victory on opening night.

“Greenwalt was throwing the ball exceptionally well in Spring Training. It translated to here,” Linares said. “He’s matured a lot. It’s good to see him do that. Pitkin, the same thing. He got into a little bit of trouble but stayed focused and did a good job.”

Round Rock

The Express put together a rally using long balls and long at bats. After being down 6-0, the Express tied it in the 7th with HR’s by David Newhan & Mark Saccomanno. The grabbed the lead for the first time after Thomas Perez battled through a 10 pitch at bat to bloop a two out hit to center. After the Redbirds tied it up in the 8th, J.R. Towles homered in the 9th to give the Express a 9-7 victory.

DeLome Impressive in Avs Debut, CC Wins Late, Fairchild’s Journey, RR Ready to Rumble, Lex Loses Late, Draft Pick Loyalties

Salem

Colin Delome had memorable debut in Salem. He homered in his first at bat in the Carolina league and then later doubled as well.

“I was teasing the guys on the bench, saying, ‘See it’s not that hard,’” Avalanche manager Jim Pankovits said.

The Avs won 7-4. The game featured a little hint of basebrawl as well.

Kinston’s manager had been thrown out for arguing a call at the plate in the fourth inning.

Salem reliever Chris Salamida hit Niuman Romero square in the back with a pitch to lead off the eighth inning, and drew a bench warning from the umpires.

In the bottom of the eighth, Pontius walked the leadoff batter and then threw behind the head of the next batter, Parraz, before striking him out. He also went high against Tim Torres before getting him to fly out, and eventually plunked Ori.

Pontius then walked toward Ori, who was walking toward first base. Players from both teams moved up the steps from the dugouts and out of the bullpens but didn’t get to the field. Pankovits stepped between Ori and Pontius, who were then ejected from the game.

“That’s baseball,” Pankovits said. “Hopefully it’s over with and we can get on with baseball.”

Lexington

Jeff Icenogle faced the Greensboro Grasshoppers for the second time in five days. Both outings were forgetable as the Grasshoppers round house kicked the Legends 7-5.

“They hit him fairly well when we played at Lexington,” Hoppers manager Edwin Rodriguez said. “Today they were very aggressive. The hitters have been hitting the ball very well. It’s one of those things you get in a slump and you don’t hit then someone starts hitting. It’s contagious.”
