Round Rock walked off with a win thanks to Edwin Maysonet’s 10th inning solo home run to give the Express a 4-3 victory.
“It feels great (especially) after going 0-4 and not helping the team at all in the first nine innings,” Maysonet said.
Chad Reineke had his most effective outing since late May, going 6 innings allowing only 1 run.
Salem was walking off as well. Justin Tellem’s batting average is under .200, and his slugging average is under .300. But his 2 run home run in the 9th inning sent the Avs off the field with a win over Myrtle Beach.
Douglas Arguello shut the Pelicans out for 8 innings.
“He had really good control of his curveball,” Tellam said. “We’ve played seven games with these guys in the last eight days. When you see each other so much, you start to know each other. Doug was able to exploit that.”
“When he throws strikes, he’s tough to hit and even when he doesn’t he’s not hit hard,” Avalanche manager Jim Pankovits said. “When he throws strikes the ball moves a lot. Tonight he had an outstanding curve, real sharp, late breaking. Hitters seem to have trouble squaring up to it.”
Tri Cities got their first win of the season in dramatic fashion and with a little help from Lowell. Trailing 6-2 in the top half of the 8th the ValleyCats sent 9 men to the plate and scored 3 runs thanks to an extra out from the Spinners. Ebert Rosario reached on a strikeout/wild pitch to keep the inning alive. One more run scored after the error to make it 6-5 going into the 9th. In the 9th, Phil Disher knocked in Jack Shuck with a double to tie the game and send it to extras. Micheal Diaz led off the 11th with a homerun. Ashton Mowdy struck out 4 batters in his two innings of work to earn the win.
Corpus Christi started the second half on the right foot with a 7-2 victory over San Antonio. Wlad Sutil & Chris Johnson had 3RBI’s a piece and the defense turned 5 double plays. Brad James appears to have struggled some with his control walking 5 batters while giving up 6 hits but only allowed 2 runs. His sinker was working as he only had 1 fly ball out compared to 12 ground ball outs. Three of the five double plays were with James on the mound.
Greeneville committed 5 errors in their 6-4 loss at Kingsport last night.
“That’s how it goes,” said Greeneville manager Rodney Linares. “At this level, players are going to make mistakes, but at least they were physical errors and not mental errors.”
Henry Villar made his American debut pitching 4 innings to start the game. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks. He struck out 5 batters. Nathaniel Pettus made his pro debut in the 8th inning. He went 1 1/3 innings giving up 1 run on 3 hits and one walk. He struck out 3 batters.
