Posted on July 15, 2007 by mihoba in Game Recaps

Cubs 9, Astros 3

W: Ted Lilly (9-3) | L: Roy Oswalt (8-6)

AP recap
Footer gives her take

After typing up a long, tirade filled recap yesterday evening and losing it to cyberspace, this is now the condensed version, using mainly quotes from the Astros camp.

Roy Oswalt breezed through the Cubs lineup for the first three innings on a windy day at Wrigley, and had one out in the 4th when he lost his command, the lead, and eventually the ballgame seemingly due to a terrible call by home plate umpire Larry Vanover on a strikeout ruled as a foul tip. The horror!
PENCE!!! Ready or not?

The Goddamn Fucking Mets, Game 1. John Maine outpitched Jason Jennings in a thoroughly dominating performance. The Astros offense didn’t even sniff 2nd base for the first 5 while Jennings gave up 4 runs over the same span and the boys went on to lose it 6-2.Read More

Mets (46-37) at Astros (37-48)

AKA “The Juice Box”

Thursday, July 5, 7:05pm-FSN
Friday, July 6, 7:05pm-FSN
Saturday, July 6, 6:05pm-FSN
Sunday, July 7, 1:05pm-FSN

The division leading Mets with three all star starters arrive in Necktown for a four game series with the Astros.  Though still ahead of the Braves and Phils, the Mets are limping, having lost four in a row including being swept over the weekend by the Rockies.  Beltran, Reyes, and Wright—all stars for the upcoming summer classic will be in town, along with Delgado and catcher Paul Lo Duca.  Lo Duca, however, is sitting outside of Dean Wormer’s office along with Qualls, and may be suspended for part of the four game set.  Just in case, the Mets called up 67 year old catcher Sandy Alomar, Jr. who has been hanging out in New Orleans lately trying to figure out what a “Zephyr” is supposed to be.

Lastings Milledge Update: nothing new here other than New Yorkers remain puzzled that flyover country has not appreciated his value in potential trade scenarios.  He’s Lastings Milledge, people—c’mon.

JULY 4, 2007
Astros 3, Phillies 8

W: Hamels (10-4) | L: Sampson (6-6)
Ben DuBose tells you what’s what at Astros.com
Yahoo! AP Recap!

If you’re really, deeply interested, the Astros lost today. Still won the series though, and I ain’t complaining. In a nutshell, the Phillies played a little long ball to break it open, and the Good Guys racked up the hits, but were pooductive when it mattered. You can read all about it here, if you’re so inclined. I have some other things that I’d like to briefly touch on.Read More

Oh what a night…

Posted on July 4, 2007 by mihoba in Game Recaps

Astros 5, Phillies 4 (13 innings)
W: Matt Albers (2-4) | L: Jose Mesa (0-1)
Homeruns: Hunter Pence (10)
HOF monitor: Craig Biggio 2-5, R, RBI, BB

AP recap from Yahoo!
DuBose wrap from Astros.com

Hunter Pence is having the time of his life. The enthusiastic rookie center fielder capped a huge night by slamming a Jose Mesa fastball off the facade in left field for his first career walk-off home run leading off the 13th inning, helping the Astros to their fifth win in the last six games and starting the 4th of July fireworks celebration early. Pence joined Carlos Lee and Mark Loretta by hitting the third walk-off homer for the Astros in the last six games. Read More

Phillies at Astros, 7/2/07

Score: Astros 7, Phillies 5

W: Williams (4-10) L: Moyer (7-6) S: Miller (1)

Homeruns: Burrell (9), Victorino (10), Lee (16), Pence (9)

Biggio watch: 1,001 extra base hits, the 26th player in MLB history to go over 1,000; 3,007 hits, now tied with Al Kaline for 25th

Read not-the-Alyson’s Report Here: DuBose

Or the AP recap here: ESPN

First things first: Shane Victorino is phucking insane. The man launched himself into the stands – “with no regard for human life!” – on a foul ball attempt. If you missed it, you really need to see the clip.

OK, now for the game.
