The horror!
PENCE!!! Ready or not?

The Goddamn Fucking Mets, Game 1. John Maine outpitched Jason Jennings in a thoroughly dominating performance. The Astros offense didn’t even sniff 2nd base for the first 5 while Jennings gave up 4 runs over the same span and the boys went on to lose it 6-2.

FSN Houston viewers paid an extra penance to enjoy this game. JD decided to extend his All-Star break by taking this series off which allowed us to experience the vocal stylings of Greg Lucas for the entire game. No, this is not the first time we’ve been subjected to this but you would think by now, someone would have mentioned to Greg that providing ‘color’ for the game does not mean comment on EVERYTHING, regardless of how inane or inaccurate the observation may be. Since it’s obvious no one has, I’ll take the opportunity to say, “Greg, less is more. PLEEEASE!!”

I could go over the highlights but there were few, unless you enjoy watching a young pitcher undress your favorite team. Maine challenged the Astros hitters all night but the only runs they could scratch together were late in the 8th as the Mets righty was tiring out. He finished with 2 ERs, 9 Ks, 2 BBs in 7.2 IP.

Jennings threw strikes but the steM bats knocked him around for 5 runs on 9 H. XBHs were plentiful, 4 in the first 3 innings including a triple by Reyes on the game’s 2nd pitch and the GDFM scored 2 in the first. Jennings hung in there but got in trouble again in the 3rd with 2 doubles, a walk and some lollygagging by Lee in left. No wonder they run like criminals on this outfield.

On the bright side, Biggio stayed hot on this homestand with 2 hits, including a double and run scored. And Lance had a very Bagwellian moment in the 8th. If you missed it, be sure to check it out on the Astros.com recap page.

3 more with these fuckers so be sure to check on the bourbon reserves and buy up any 98 you can find. Wandy tonight versus Pelfry at 7:05.
