PADRES 6, ASTROS 3
June 4, 2011
Petco Field

WP – Harang (6-2)
LP – Rodriguez (0-3)

SAN DIEGO (SnS) – The game was close most of the way, but never at any time did it seem realistic to think that the Astros might actually come back and win the thing. Read More

Run! Towles has a gun! Run!!

Posted on June 4, 2011 by Noe in Austin in Game Recaps

There wasn’t anything malicious about this picture, but the irony is sweet.  Any way, on the day the Houston Astros made a trek down to the Navy Seal training site, they also managed to play a baseball game against the San Diego Friars.  And they lost too, in pretty much an uninspired fashion.

San Diego 3 – Houston 1
WP: Moseley LP: Happ SV: Bell

It wasn’t a particularly boring game, there was some amount of drama. Chris Johnson hit two triples in consecutive at bats, Moseley doing kick saves out on the mound, and Brad Ausmus making an appearance looking his svelte self and providing that much more angst for BudGirl (and perhaps several other thousand closet Ausmus fans around town). In the end, nothing more to see here, move along.

Woo-Hoo

Astros 7, Padres 3
W: shitty beer, L: tv dinner, S: Mark Melancon

Box Score and Recap
Game Zone

This was a game Astros fans could really enjoy. The Astros committed no errors on the night while the Padres committed three. Yes, three, all in on inning. How nice that the other team commits errors while the Astros did not?

I’d like to think Chris Johnson is returning to the 2nd half 2010 season form, but I’m not going to make that proclamation just yet. Brett Wallace seems to be getting his groove back, and I’m happy for him to bat either 5th or 6th for the rest of the season. Hunter Pence is probably going to be your All-Star. Carlos Lee is slowly and quietly increasing his batting average and Michael Bourn is doing his usual. Jeff Keppinger is making everyone happy he is back, not just with his bat but with his glove.

The bullpen, much to some people’s surprise, did not blow this game. Jeff Fulchino did make sure to let all the runners on base score instead of leaving them stranded. At least Bud Norris still got the win. Mark Melancon is doing a good job of closing games. Should be interesting with Brandon Lyons getting ready to come back. With him and Wandy Rodriguez returning, who do you want to send away?

Another busy weekend ahead, soccer games and a Sandcastle building contest.

Have a good weekend and Go Astros!!!

Astros Sweep the Cubs

Posted on June 2, 2011 by BudGirl in Game Recaps

Astros 3, Cubs 1
W: Brett Myers, L: Doug Davis, S: Mark Melancon

Box Score and Recap

The Astros were able to come back in all three games of the series to win ’em all. Great job boys. There is no better treat for a fan in baseball than to have your team beat the Cubs.

Next up the San Diego Padres.

CHICAGO (SnS) — I don’t have enough adjectives, or a solid enough command of hyperbole, or enough of a lordly, know-it-all mein to do this write-up Justice, so I am playing it (relatively) straight.Read More

There’s no success like failure, and failure’s no success at all.

Posted on May 30, 2011 by Ron Brand in Featured, Game Recaps, News

Diamondbacks 4, Astros 2

WP: Heilman (4-0)
LP: Fulchino (1-3)

A day late and a dollar short. Behind the eight ball. On the southern end of a northbound train. The Edsel. On a downhill slide. There’s no success like failure, and failure’s no success at all. Misfortune: The kind of fortune that never misses.

Luck can’t last a lifetime unless you die young. Everyone has his day and some days last longer than others. You don’t drown by falling in the water; you drown by staying there. If at first you don’t succeed, failure may be your style. Failure is the opportunity to begin again more intelligently. Failure to prepare is preparing to fail. If all else fails, immortality can always be assured by spectacular error.

Only the mediocre are always at their best. Things don’t go wrong, they simply happen. The harder you fall, the higher you bounce. To hit bottom is to fall from grace. When the only tool you have is a hammer, every problem begins to resemble a nail. There are moments when everything goes well, but don’t be frightened, it won’t last. Always expect the worst, and you will never be disappointed.

Every solution breeds new problems. Inside every large problem is a small problem struggling to get out. If you can’t learn to do it well, learn to enjoy doing it badly. Laugh at your problems; everybody else does.

We must accept finite disappointment, but we must never lose infinite hope.
