AP recap
First inning, Woody makes a mistake to Duncan, Astros behind 3-0 before they grab a bat. The Cards only needed one tally as the Astros looked extremely flat and managed a mere 5 singles, a double, and a walk, never reaching third base.
Thanks, Drayton.

AP tells it like it is.
It had the makings of a classic. Promising young Astros pitcher making his first start vs. young Nationals left-hander the Astros had never seen before. It was all that as Juan Gutierrez and the boys dug a 1st inning hole a bit too deep to climb out of as the gNats took the game 7-6 and the series 3 games to 1.

Game Zone thread
The Good Guys held on last night to take a close and entertaining bitchin’ matchup v. the gNats of DC, 3-2. Woodrow was the big story of the night, allowing just 2 runs in 6.1 innings while striking out 8, including a hat trick by Zimmerman. Woody kept ’em off-balance all night, in part by not knowing exactly where the ball was going to go when he threw it. The control was mostly there when it counted, though he got away with a few. Don’t look now, but Woody’s 4-2 in 8 starts since the break, with an ERA of 3.78 and a WHIP of 1.20. My sources tell me that these figures are above average.Read More

AP recap
Craig Biggio started the home half with his all-time NL leading 53rd leadoff home run, but that was basically the highlight of the game as Wandy Rodriguez lost his home mojo and fell to the Nationals at Minute Maid Park for the Astros second straight home loss to the lowly gNats. Read More
