What to do with Q?

Although it was just under 15 hours between last night’s final pitch and today’s first, it felt like 2 years to some. The Astros played like they couldn’t get out of pHilly pHast enough and they blew their chance at back-to-back series wins by bowing to the pHucking pHillies 10-2.Read More

0-2 in 2008. Good or bad? Discuss.

An enthusiastic welcome goes out to the new-look SpikesnStars and a toast to everyone who made it happen. And what’s a new-look site without a new-look team to go along with it? Houston Astros v4.0 is what’s been kicking around in my head as this this team looks nothing like the one I’ve been used to for, oh, about 20 years. Busting with bats and butt-haulin’, it seems this team’s been designed for scoring loads of runs with the hope that starters 2-5 hold it together enough for the ‘pen to bring it home. Apparently, prodigious Petco Park is not exactly the ideal locale to open things up for this team as the Padres held the Astros to one walked-in run to muck up a pretty strong outing by Brandon Backe and drop game 2, 2-1.Read More

As the shit snowball that is 2007 slows to just a steaming pile, from any Astros fan’s perspective – anyone not named Raup – getting perfected by a young Reds pitcher would be a dubious, yet somewhat appropriate exclamation point to this “lost season.” Yet there I was, watching it all. What am I feeling? Have Jim and Mark given me pause to consider this lad who they know so well, as he lays zeros upon my favorite team? Am I actually rooting for him to do it??

Wandy on the road. Sluggish Astros offense with Looper on the mound. Throw out your expectations friends, because yes, tonight was a beat-down but one the Good Guys® put on the sinking 3rdinals 18-1. Led by record-setting RBI man J.R. Towles, the Astros put up 23 hits, scored in 6 out of 9 innings, and batted around in the 7th and 8th innings.Read More
