“It’s been a season of frustration, I’m sure, for everyone that’s a fan, everyone that’s involved with the organization.” -Woody Williams

The Astros gave us fans another frustrating performance tonight, with Woody yielding 2 1st inning jacks worth 4 runs and the rest of the team showing they can get ’em on, but they can’t get ’em in. They lost the rubber game to the sCrUBS 6-2.

I won’t go into too many details since it was really just more of the same. Woody struggled early and dug a hole but settled down to pitch well over the next 6 innings. The Astros offense hit Trachsel well enough but 0 for 6 with RISP and that, my friends, tells pretty much the whole story.

Two solo jacks in the 4th by Lee and Loretta were all the runs the boys could get and the Cubs bullpen gave up 1 hit and 1 BB over 4. Ugh!

I’ll leave you with this quote from Beaker courtesy of Alyson’s recap:

“[Wednesday], I hit a semi-pop fly and I got kind of lackadaisical and ran 75 percent, not 100 percent,” Pence said. “If [the fielder] dropped it, I wouldn’t have gotten to second. [Biggio] got on me. He said, ‘If I ever see you do it again, that’s not the way you play, me and you are going to have problems.’

“That woke me up. I can’t get lackadaisical out there. I hit that pop fly and that’s what I thought of. I was going to run as hard as I can every time and it just so happened that it fell in. Those are the kinds of things Craig Biggio does for a team.”

Amen.
