Game Recaps 2009
They’re back! Our lineup of game recap contributors are back for the 2009 season strong as ever. From the sharp observational wit of pravata, to the lustful writing of Budgirl (goodbye Brad Ausmus), to JackAstro’s keen grasp of the absurd, weird and wonderful to Ty in Tampa’s remarkable situational insight (the man is clutch), all have returned to give us all more for the upcoming Houston Astros campaign.
So get ready for our version of the Killer Bs as you read you will be bemused, bewildered, bewitched, befuddled and besmirched if only because those are the only b words we could think of. Overall though, you’ll love our game observations posted almost daily. In fact, that is our motto for this year “A game recap… almost daily!”. The other motto for the season is “Try to keep Noe on the bench as much as possible”. So welcome aboard if you’re new to SpikesnStars this year and are trying to figure out why Game Recaps are so unique. We’re not in competition with the Great Footer, we wouldn’t even know how to try, but we will find things that perhaps you haven’t considered that is unique to any specific game. We will also point out what was posted in our GameZone that you might want to consider reading, if not for keen GameZoner observations, at the very least for the sheer entertainment of it.
The Bus Ride 2009
Welcome to the Bus Ride 2009, SpikesnStars original contributor content. This is place for all things minor leagues for the Houston Astros. The Bus Ride is your primary source for minor league articles including draft reviews, top tens, minor league interviews and analysis. We want to give you Astros minor league information as an introduction if you’ve not followed the young players coming up and resource information you can use once they make the show. The Astros have minor league affiliates in each level of minor league baseball (AAA, AA, high-A, low-A, short-season-A, and rookie league). AAA is populated by just about every kind of player from prospects to hangers-on to roster filler to guys with mlb experience hoping to make the big club. AA is usually populated by advanced prospects and roster filler. From A-ball on down you’ll find prospects of all sort hoping to develop into major league material. The short season-A and rookie level leagues generally play from late June to early September whereas the full season leagues will play from April to September. Because prospects are always developing a simple look at their statistics may not tell you the whole story, so We’ll try to dig a little deeper for you and pump sources to provide you more than just boxscore views of the kids. Stick around, we think you’ll like reading about the 2009 version of your Houston Astros farm system.
Series Preview 2009
Once again this season, SpikesnStars will get you prepared for every Astros series with previews full of bullshit jokes insightful commentary and a prescient look ahead that was pulled out of our asses. We have a writing rotation packed with veteran hurlers MRaup, strosrays, Craig, JaneDoe, and Taras Bulba. Plus we’ll have rookie phenom GreatBagwellsBeard, who was guaranteed a spot in the rotation as part of his unheard-of signing bonus. And just in case, we have Limey waiting in the bullpen writing a socialist manifesto on his iPhone.
Be sure to check here prior to the start of every Astros series, unless it’s a holiday or something. We’ll let you know which Astros to watch closely in the upcoming series, which of the opposing team members need to get one in the ear, and whether or not the bobbleheads suck. Heck, we’ll even preview the interleague games that no ones cares about!
So check back on Opening Day for our lead-off series preview; first up – the Astros travel to Minute Maid Park for an away series against the Milwaukee Cubs!
