Welcome Back!!!

Posted on June 11, 2013 by BudGirl in Game Recaps

Mariners 3, Astros 2
W:Iwakuma (7-1)L:Keuchel (3-3)SV:Wilhelmsen (16)

recap

The Astros took their six-game win streak from last week to a 1-6 record for the next week. There’s all kinds of blame to go around, but all I could think of was Welcome Back. These really are the 2013 Astros, not the team from the week before. Good news is they get to play the Brewers and Cubs next week, so who knows, there could be another win streak in the future.

The thing most people are excited about in regard to the Astros is draft which occurred last week. To get the best information check out the Bus Ride. OSF has a great list to track signings. I totally recommend you check both out often.

Now for some feel good stuff.

If you pray good things will come to Tim Tebow.

Behavior does matter.

Anything negative about the Cubs always feels good.

I feel like dancing!

recap

What an exciting time to be an Astros fan? Six game winning streak. The streaks the Astros have usually involve losses. Not sure how to explain the wins. Good pitching, timely and enough hitting, Astroleena, Vaseline, throat cancer, African killer bees?? Could be anything. I tried to follow along in the gamezone but I have no clue what they were talking about most of the night.

It seems all these wins are really going to mess up their chances for the #1 pick in the 2014 MLB draft. Not sure how I feel about that.

Over all, the Astros just makes you want to do a happy dance.

Woo-hoo!!

Holy Crap, they won 2 in a row.

recap

One thing about this bad team is that these boys do play hard, usually or most of them. I really like Dominguez. He may make mistakes, but he can also start a nice double play. Double Play

Miami is really pissing me off. They are tied with the Astros right now for the #1 draft pick in 2014. Where do they get off? Don’t they know that pick belongs to the Astros? Asshole Nation Leaguers.

A win is a win and it does make for a better evening.

______________

Last week, I mentioned how I was going to put myself in a good mood. I think I did a pretty good job of getting there. But, I also said I was going to share something in each recap that makes me smile. So, what made me smile this week? I’ve given this some serious thought, I had a much better week than the ones referenced in my last recap so I had some options.

For one thing, I have been able to go to lunch with friends. That is a complete treat for me. And it is much better than sitting at my desk eating canned soup. I did enjoy lunch at Frenchy’s a lot last Thursday. Great company and pretty good chicken. The lunch I had on Friday was nice because I had not seen that friend in probably a year. Plus, it was nice to hear someone else complain about their job.

The lunches set the tone for the week. But the thing that really made me smile happened this past weekend. A candle was given to me. Yeah, a candle made me smile. I went to a friend’s house for a BBQ and ended up going home with a Yankee Candle (Man Town).

I will confess that the reason I enjoy the scent so much is it smells like a man’s cologne. I love men’s cologne. It is one thing that will cause me turn my head and give a guy a second look. (And I’m not the only one to love the smell of a clean man.) Cologne can make a man even more attractive.

Plus, the smell of men’s cologne also makes me think fondly of my dad. I remember how he smells after shaving and using aftershave. I’ve always liked the scent and when I smell it on another man it has a different reaction in me.

Please note, this does not mean that a man should drench himself in it. But that little lingering scent is a great thing and can be a good thing for a man.

On a new note, I can’t help but be sad. Recent natural disasters put things in perspective. I truly pray for the people in North Texas and Oklahoma. I cannot imagine what they are going through. Plus, I found out this past weekend that a friend lost their 2-month old daughter to SIDS. I don’t think one is worse than the other and wish neither on anyone. So, I’m going to try and pray that things get better for everyone soon.

More than a game was lost tonight.

W:Sanchez (4-3) L:Norris (4-4)

I was watching this game for about an hour and a half and I was thinking the Astros and Bud were doing pretty good. I should have known when Altuve dislocated his jaw things were not going to go the Astros way. Bud gave up 6 runs in the 4th inning and there were no more runs for the Astros on the night. Bud also left the game with back spasms. I guess when it rains, it pours? The bright spot on the night is that the bullpen didn’t give up any runs.

If the Astros could get some major league pitching, they’d probably win a few more games. Which usually leads me to think about the minor leagues. I’m excited they are performing better. I don’t want the youngsters to be brought up unless they are ready. Regardless of the temptation to do something

The draft will be interesting. I hope and pray that Luhnow can find a magic rabbit in his baseball cap and help this team for the long-term.

On a personal note, I’ve been rather stressed of late and I am quite tired of it. I believe that each person is responsible for their happiness. And I’ve been doing a shitty job of being happy. So, I’ve decided to add something that makes me smile in every recap. Some of you know I am the assistant to a VP. And that VP is a female and let me tell you, working with a woman is not an easy thing (and yes, this includes me). But, I still think of myself as a secretary with a better title. I don’t think it is bad to be a secretary. Honestly, I’m very good at my job. Sometimes my emotions get the better of me but there are a number of reasons for those emotions, which none of you want to know or need to know.

But this clip, is something that can give me a genuine smile every time I watch it.

New Guys v. Old Guys

Posted on April 30, 2013 by BudGirl in Game Recaps

Astros 9, Yankees 1
W:Harrell (3-2) L:Pettitte (3-2)

recap

The Astros are the new guys playing one of the oldest teams in baseball and it will now be a regular series. They did good tonight. One game closer to not losing 100+ games this season.

I’m trying to think of something clever to impart about this game. I have nothing. So, I thought I’ll write a great story about me hooking up with some drug-addicted guy and having an epiphany to share but I just don’t get into guys like that so it makes writing that story hard.

Then I thought, I’ll make up a friend to share their experiences. But, I didn’t have imaginary friends when I was little and I don’t have them now.

I seem to suck at being a contributor. (And sometimes I forget to publish my recaps.)

But, I will say that I went to Yankee Stadium (the one before this one) to see the Reds/Yankees. Yankee fans were nice to me (and I did have a cute Astros bag with me) and it was the first baseball game I ever attended that had a rain delay. So, it was rather cool. Haven’t been the new place and probably won’t be for quite a while. MusicMan did write a great preview and you should check it out.

Hope they Astros have a great Tuesday! Till next week.

Another no-hitter…..

Posted on April 30, 2013 by BudGirl in Game Recaps

Mariners 7, Astros 1
W:Hernandez (2-2) L:Peacock (1-2)

recap

Oops, sorry pretty much everyone that assumed the Astros were going to be no-hit last night by King Felix but they weren’t. I understand he is a good/great pitcher, but not every pitcher is going to no-hit the Astros.

I understand this band of merry Astros is not very good. I understand that they seem to be an almost feast or famine type team but people need to stop thinking just because they are going up against a good pitcher they are going to be no-hit. Yeah, they got close to having a perfect game tossed against them the second game of the season, but really, do people think they will be on the losing end of 10 perfect/no-hit games this season? Really?

I also must confess, I didn’t watch much of the game. I was working on some math problems. I could have gone to the game and found my own math problems. What is the area of a baseball diamond, the whole field? What is the ratio of the 1st and 3rd baselines? I’m sure I could continue but I’m not going to because I really don’t like math much. As long as I do well on my test Friday I won’t have to take the final. That has been my goal all semester and right now I’m meeting that goal.
