It’s All Porter’s Fault

Posted on April 22, 2014 by BudGirl in Featured, Game Recaps, News

Astros 7, [ugh] Mariners2
W: Keuchel L: King Felix Hernandez
box score

Well, the question about Porter and his managing started early in this one. He had Dominguez DH’ing and Gonzalez playing 3B. I have questioned it before and I rather did last night again. But, Porter pulled the win out of the jaws of loss. Porter and the Astros also got some hits, some of them went quite far, especially those by Dominguez and Krauss. Somehow or other Porter caused the other team to make 2 errors. When Porter puts all his effort into a game, there’s no stopping him. His efforts also had Keuchel going 6 innings. But Qualls, Albers and Fields were also able to pitch an inning each of scoreless baseball.

Seriously, I don’t know how Porter was able to do it, but he did. He didn’t give the [ugh] Mariners a chance to get in the game. He only gave them 7 hits and 1 (yes only 1) walk through 9 innings.

Well congratulations to Porter, it was a well-deserved win.

Here’s the GameZone for some details.

It’s All Cosart’s Fault.

Angels 9, Astros 1
W: Weaver, L: Cosart
recap

I know it is early in the season and Fowler (flu) and Castro (hit by many pitches) have missed some games, but from what I can tell there have been 2 line ups the same out of 7 games, Games 2 & 3. There was been a game where Dominguez was the DH and Gonzales played 3B. I really don’t understand why you wouldn’t put Dominguez at 3rd if you put him in the line up. I don’t get that at all. But anyways, I really thought Porter was going to manage the team with the intent to win. I’m not so sure I still think that.

In regard to Monday’s game, Cosart, who I unforgivably said was the only current Astros player I wouldn’t trade (sorry for the jinx big boy), had a bad first inning. If you listen to reports of the game, it’s as though Cosart ruined the whole season. Yeah, he walked some batters then settled down to go 6 innings. I still like Cosart, I think he has the stuff and confidence to win in this league. I also think sometimes you need a bad outing to remind yourself that you still have to work for things. I think Cosart comes back with a vengeance and does well.

Peacock did a pretty good job of piling on the runs, he gave up 4 in only 3 innings. Regardless, it is hard to win any baseball game when your team only gets 4 hits on the day.

Keeping in mind that it is still early in the season, here’s the first move I think will happen. Carter gets let go/sent down (whatever his options might be) for Singleton. Carter is a complete disaster in the field, at least in my opinion. Plus, his bat ain’t too pretty right now. I hope he does well on another team, but I’m done.

On a personal note, I gave serious thought to going for Gallery Furniture’s promotion of the Astros winning 63 games this year. I think it’ll happen. I just don’t think I can decide on furniture before the promotion ends. I had one friend tell me that he didn’t think I’d ever like the furniture if the Astros didn’t win 63 games. So, I decided to wait.

Special thanks and shout out to Mr. Happy for letting us all know it was a day game and the commentary in the GameZone.

Ass-spanking – and not in a good way

Posted on September 24, 2013 by BudGirl in Game Recaps, News

Astros 0, Rangers 12
W:Holland (10-9)L:Lyles (7-9)
recap

I have to be honest, I don’t care about the Astros right now. Between parents getting old, me taking classes, work, etc. life has pre-empted the Astros. It has for a majority of us also according to the participation in the GameZone and Neilson ratings. My prediction for 2014, is that the Astros may not be last but I don’t think they are going to be close to .500. Not with the nucleus of players they have right now.

I do wish they would take the next 2 from the Rangers. I’m also glad I’m going to be in San Antonio this upcoming weekend to avoid the Mariano show. Why didn’t MLB schedule the Yanks to be at home to close out the season.

Either way, I’m done for the season and am ready for my Void to start. So, here’s to a happy Void to one and all.

99 losses of games on the board

Posted on September 17, 2013 by BudGirl in Game Recaps, News

Rouge 6, Astros 1
W:Cueto (5-2)L:Bedard (4-11
recap

Eric Bedard est revenu à line-up hier. Il est allé à quatre innings et il a permis de quarte runs.

Yeah, I’m taking a French class this semester and thought I would do a little bit of the recap in French. I think I did okay. I just don’t have time to do the whole recap Maybe next time, but to be honest, if I’m going to spend that much time writing French, I would rather turn it in for a grade.

Harrell did pitch 5 innings only giving up 2 runs, which is pretty good for him. There’s not much else to say about this game.

The Astros now have a record of 51-99. I think they are a very save bet to have the #1 pick in the 2014 draft. I don’t know how much change is going to occur next year. I just hope the pitching that is in the farm system will be enough to make a difference.

qcbaseball shared this video which does give me a lot of hope for the future. Those kids brought joyful tears to my eyes. I miss the time when the Astros enjoyed winning the division, play off games, etc.

So, until next week, let’s hope the Astros can hold off on that #100 loss.

Labor Day Special

Posted on September 3, 2013 by BudGirl in Game Recaps, News

Twins 10, Astros 6
W:Roenicke (3-1) L:Lo (0-3)
recap

Well, some of us had the day off of work to celebrate Labor Day. I literally took the day off from the Astros. It did not dawn on me until Tuesday morning that I should have watched the game since I am scheduled to recap them. Well, it is pretty much the same as it has been of late.

Here’s the pitching lines from yesterday.
Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Clemens 3.2 7 4 3 3 0 2 5.91
Harrell 1.1 3 1 1 1 1 1 5.81
Fields(H, 6) 2.0 0 1 1 2 2 0 6.07
Chapman, K(BS, 2) 1.0 1 0 0 1 2 0 0.00
Lo(L, 0-3) 1.0 2 4 4 2 2 1 5.25
Totals 9.0 13 10 9 9 7 4 4.85

Lo giving up the grand slam is pretty much the way the season has gone.

Hope you all had a great labor day.

It Takes 5 To Get A Win

recap
GameZone

Well, this one was a nail biter. Score tied going into the top of the 9th. The inning doesn’t start out looking good for the hometown heroes with Jose Altuve striking out swinging, Jason Castro struck out swinging, catcher Josh Phegley to first baseman Paul Konerko then Mighty Matt Dominguez homered (his 19th on the season) on a fly ball to left center field, which was followed by Chris “Don’t Lose Faith in Me” Carter homer (his 25th) on a line drive to right center field and Brett Wallace popped out to third baseman Jeff Keppinger.

The Astros take a lead into the 9th inning. And here’s the rest of the story.
Josh Zeid replaced David Martinez (who pitched 2.2 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits – but got the win).
Zeid gets Alejandro De Aza to ground out, then proceeds to walk Gordon Beckham, followed by Alexei Ramirez flying out to center field. Paul Konerko hit a ground-rule double on a line drive to left field Now the Sox have runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out. Leury Garcia replaces Paul Konerko as a pinch runner (looking for some speed). Which prompts Porter to make a pitching change. Kevin Chapman replaces Josh Zeid, who quickly walks Adam Dunn. OMG, bases are loaded!!! What is Porter going to do now??? Well, he makes another pitching change. Jordan Lyles replaced Kevin Chapman. So, Ventura decided he needs even more speed on the bases and pinch runs Jordan Danks for Adam Dunn.

And Lyles proceeded to say, “that’s enough, I want some pizza” and struck out Avisail Garcia.

Overall, nice win by the boys. The Astros scored 10 runs on 13 hits and 4 walks. The Sox also committed 2 errors to the Astros 1. 5 homeruns were hit by the Astros, Castro – now has an Astros record, Wallace – nice one for his birthday, Carter – showed off by hitting 2 and giving faith for the faithful fans a little bit longer, and Dominguez – I got nothing for this one.

Plus, they still have a pretty comfortable lead for the 2014 #1 draft pick.

The series continues Tuesday with hopefully Bouncy Barnes playing in the outfield. Check out his leaping catch at the wall.
