I got nothing.

Posted on April 16, 2013 by BudGirl in Game Recaps

Astros 2, A’s 11
W:Milone (3-0) L:Bedard (0-1)

recap

Eric Bedard gave up 6 runs in the first inning, which is more than most, if not all, teams can overcome. The Astros did get two runs on 8 hits but Cedeno and Wright did not have good nights either. Mr. Clemens did a good job going 5.1 innings of scoreless baseball. In fact, Mr. Clemens injured his finger. video I hope he is alright. It looks like it hurt.

I must admit, this game really wasn’t on my mind tonight. Between the events from earlier in the day and me studying for an oral exam in my French class, it just wasn’t a priority. Plus twice now I have been hindered from watching part of the game because of Rockets POST-GAME coverage. Really, post-game coverage versus live action? Oh well, it just justifies me going to sleep earlier. In my mind at least.

Here’s a good recap of the night’s game.

100th loss

Posted on October 2, 2012 by BudGirl in Game Recaps

Astros 3, Cubs 0
W: Harrell (11-11) L: Berken (0-3) SV: Wright (1)

recap

This was the game I’ve waited all season to watch. The Astros shutting the Cubs out and giving them their 100th loss. Life only gets a little bit better than that. Lucas Harrell, Ace of the Astros pitching staff, did a great job for the 6 innings he was allowed to pitch. The bullpen then continued with the scoreless and pretty much hitless streak started by Harrell through the rest of the game.

The hitters did their job, especially F. Martinez. He hit a nice shot onto Sheffield (?) Avenue. There was just enough Astros offensive to win the game without being gaudy. Hopefully you can get an opportunity to see Altuve’s caught stealing. It was a complete Major League slide.

One outstanding topic I heard during the game, which was a great relief, was Brownie and J.D. talking about hotels and where they would stay in St. Petersburg next year. Yes, they were having a discussion about next seasons games as though they are going to do the broadcasting!!!!

——————————

This is my last recap of the season. In the past when I have submitted my final recap I tried to write something memorable or at least worthwhile. (I feel I rather mailed it in this year on a lot of the recaps this year.)

The end of something is near. The something to me is not just Astros baseball. To me the something ending is SnS (also known as orangewhoopass or AstrosConnection) as many of us know it. Some of the recaps and previews have felt like eulogies to me of late. A lot has changed in the last year. The Astros were sold, many were pleased but then they weren’t. Included in the sale was the agreeing to move the Astros to the American League. After that happened the team got stripped of any value at the major league level, which there was not much. In that stripping, there was some hope for the future planted. For once, the farm system is not the bottom feeder it has been of late. Hopefully the seeds planted by Luhnow will develop into the stars Astros fans deserve. I know the fans will come back to the team when they start winning again – and I truly believe they will. There is always room on any team’s bandwagon.

I also think part of the reason for this feeling is that many of us have had substantive changes in our personal and professional life over the last year or two. Some have lost loves, found loves, getting ready to marry loves. Many have been blessed to have their families grow. And some of us are finishing things we started a long time ago. For the most part, these are great things and are the wonder of life. I am blessed and honored that many of you have shared them with me.

But the writing seems to be on the website that things are going to change. I do believe some of you will stick around because you just cannot give up the Astros crack. I believe some of you will stick around because of the friendships you have made. I believe some of you will stick around because you will not know what else to do while you should be working. And some will stick around because you love this team. I will admit for me it will be a mixture of all of that.

Overall, we are all handed things in life that challenge our commitment to loving and caring for something. Usually, those things are bad. But, I feel if it is something you love you don’t leave it willingly. Those that are choosing to leave, I hope you find happiness. Those that are going to be around, I hope we get to the World Series in 5 years (is that too optimistic?).

And I want to make sure that I mention a special thank you to Ron Brand and Mr. Happy. Without you two this season there would not have been a GameZone. You are the fans that the Astros are going to need in five years to tell the new and returning fans what they missed.

For those of you breaking up with the Astros this song is for you!!!!

Love you guys (and gals) and hope you have a great void!!!

And then there were 8

Cardinals 6, Astros 1

wrap

There are some days that are just not a good day. There are some days that start out bad then end up pretty good. There are some days that start out great and end bad. And then there are some days that are great. Well, mine was the combination of both. It started with a Monday morning, you know the one where you don’t want to go to work but you do. Traffic crawled, then I had to go through a detour because of construction. Someone parked in my spot (yeah, I’m kind of spoiled). I finally made it into work and it was just busy.

But, things did get better as the day went along. I did well on the quiz in class, left work by 5:30 (but again, traffic was horrid – why do people stop for green lights???), then went to see the Go-Go’s. That was a great ending to the night.

But seriously, who cares about me? All anyone cares about is how the last homestand is going. It’s not going well. We all have a sincere hate of the Cardinals, but we do like being in the same division as them. I am not going to spew hate, because I don’t want to be that kind of person and it wouldn’t change anything. But, how great would it be to feed the Cardinals one last double pattied shit burger? I think it would be awesome.

Win Streak Ends at 1

Posted on September 11, 2012 by BudGirl in Game Recaps

Cubs 4, Astros 1
W: Volstad (3-10) L: Rodriguez (1-10) SV: Marmol (19)

BOX

Well, the Astros ended their 1-game win streak behind the pitching of Dallak Kuechel. I am unsure why Mills DeFrancesco pulled him, but he did.

I also know this was one of the longest games I’ve ever attended. It is one thing if exciting things are happening, but NOTHING was really happening. Seriously, the game ended at 10:47 or something. On a damm school night. I can’t do that anymore. I did no homework last night which means I have twice as much to do today. And since I left work early to go to the game, I’ll probably end up staying until close to 7:00. I really don’t think I’m that important.

But back to the game. One thing DeFrancesco and Mills have in common, at least last night was the theory “Everyone Plays, Everyone Gets a Snowcone.” I guess they want to see what these kids can do at the major league level, but the 300 of us left in the stands just wanted the game to end.

I’ll have another recap of a Cubs/Astros game and I have to admit I’ll be glad not to see this bunch of idiots again. I know we will be replacing Cubs fans with Red Sox fans but the Red Sox fans won’t be around as much since it will be a different division.

For conversations that happened during the game, check out the Game Zone. Chuck was being a bit fruity.

Labor Day Win

Posted on September 4, 2012 by BudGirl in Game Recaps

Astros 5, Pirates 1
W: Gonzalez (1-0) L: Locke (0-1)

box

Hells to the yeah, the Astros have won two out of three. What a nice afternoon win for the loyal Astros? Brett Wallace hit his 7th on the road homerun, giving him a total of 7 homeruns for the season. Here’s to more away games for Brett!

Edgar Gonzalez did his best to remain a MLB pitcher. It was enough to give him a win. I’m not going to critique his pitching, because let’s be honest, very few people read the recaps and no one really cares what I think about anything.

Brandon Barnes almost had a highlight reel catch, but missed it. Garrett Jones ended up stranded at third. There is some game time reactions in the Gamezone if you want to check it out.

Dark Star posted a preview.

But most of the action continues to happen in the Bus Ride.

Maybe the Astros are going to be able to end the season on a high note, meaning winning a couple more games. Not everyone gets to finish first but finishing as badly as they seem to be headed has got to suck.

The only ones with a chance of winning a lid this season are:
51 Dark Star
61 Mr. Happy
62 BizidyDizidy
63 Sphinx Drummond
64 moriartp
65 Andyzipp
66 Ron Brand
67 homer
68 SaltyParker
69 Ty in Tampa
