Not tired enough, Kazuo for Quintero

Posted on April 19, 2008 by pravata in Game Recaps

“I just was throwing not very quality pitches,” Sampson said. “My arm felt strong, and when it does that, my sinker flattens out, and it wasn’t really sinking. And when it was sinking, it wasn’t sinking where I wanted.”

Friday the Astros activated Kazuo and designated Quintero for assignment.

Molony’s wrap

Arriving in Houston after sunup Friday morning, the Rockies used the momentum from a 22 inning victory in San Diego Thursday night to jump on the Astros and Chris Sampson for a 6-spot in the first inning and cruised to an 11-5 victory over the Astros at Minute Maid Park. Read More

What to do with Q?

Although it was just under 15 hours between last night’s final pitch and today’s first, it felt like 2 years to some. The Astros played like they couldn’t get out of pHilly pHast enough and they blew their chance at back-to-back series wins by bowing to the pHucking pHillies 10-2.Read More

Tonight we were treated to a proper pitching-and-just-enough-to-win-it ballgame straight out of my youth. The Sparky we know and love returned, and not a moment too fucking soon, while Michael Bourn put a boot shin deep where the sun don’t shine in Philly. Read More

astros.com wrap

Entering the bottom of the ninth with a 3-0 lead, Astros closer Jose Valverde completely tanked. First, he allowed a solo home run to pinch hitter Chris Snelling, then bored a slider into Chase Utley for a HBP. After he made good pitches to Ryan Howard for the K, he went to a 3-2 count on Pat Burrell before throwing a very straight waist high outside fastball that Burrell slammed into the right field seats to tie the game. Visibly upset, Valverde proceeded to whiff Geoff Jenkins on an inside slider that bounced off catcher Brad Ausmus’ mitt for a passed ball that allowed Jenkins to reach first base. The next batter, Pedro Feliz, hit a liner just past the diving Geoff Blum into the left field corner. With Jenkins running through a stop sign at third, leftfielder Carlos Lee finally corraled it and one-hopped cutoff man Miguel Tejada, who threw a strike to Ausmus seemingly in time to tag the sliding Jenkins, but he was called safe. Astros take the rubber game 5-1

Posted on April 13, 2008 by pravata in Game Recaps

For the second game, Astros pitching held down the hard hitting Marlins. Wandy had a biting curve and got 7 Ks, typically off the Marlins swinging at the curve in the dirt. His last K in the 7th was on 3 pitches. JR set up the sequence to the pinch hitter Andino, fastball outside corner, dropped the curve over and then the high fastball got him swinging. The only run the Marlins scored was in the 4th when the hard hitting Willingham knocked a fastball over the tracks.
