Apologies, just a very quick recap here

What can you say about Craig Biggio. He announces his (99.9% sure) retirement at the end of the season in the afternoon, then knocks a go-ahead grand salami a few hours later. Biggio hit a hanging slider from Rudy Seanez into the Crawford boxes in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 deadlock.Read More

Middle inning disaster at Wrigley

Cubs 9, Astros 3

W: Ted Lilly (9-3) | L: Roy Oswalt (8-6)

AP recap
Footer gives her take

After typing up a long, tirade filled recap yesterday evening and losing it to cyberspace, this is now the condensed version, using mainly quotes from the Astros camp.

Roy Oswalt breezed through the Cubs lineup for the first three innings on a windy day at Wrigley, and had one out in the 4th when he lost his command, the lead, and eventually the ballgame seemingly due to a terrible call by home plate umpire Larry Vanover on a strikeout ruled as a foul tip. Oh what a night…

Hunter Pence is having the time of his life. The enthusiastic rookie center fielder capped a huge night by slamming a Jose Mesa fastball off the facade in left field for his first career walk-off home run leading off the 13th inning, helping the Astros to their fifth win in the last six games and starting the 4th of July fireworks celebration early. Pence joined Carlos Lee and Mark Loretta by hitting the third walk-off homer for the Astros in the last six games. Read More

This recap is a delayed live report from the Crawford boxes, where me and my youngest son (16) spent the afternoon sitting next to several healthy young ladies, so there might be a slight distraction factor. I did my best to visualize all the action, and I even glanced at the field occasionally. Oh, and I knew this would be a good game as soon as I walked into the park today, as I was met by TZ mainstay BudGirl, who gave me a big hug and filled me in on all the action I missed from the three games prior. They don’t make young ladies like that in my neck of the woods, those who understand & enjoy baseball on her level.Read More

Woody and Randolph take it on the chin, Astros lose 11-3

Posted on June 23, 2007 by mihoba in Game Recaps

Rangers 11, Astros 3
W: Millwood (4-6) | L: Williams (3-10)
Seven hits shy of 3000 for Biggio (2993, 1-5)

AP recap

Woody Williams had a bad game. He started shaky by allowing three hits and a run in the first inning, and allowed another run on a walk and a hit in the second. Woody seemed to regain his effectiveness by escaping a three-walk jamb in the third, and retired the side in order in the fourth. By the time he took to the hill in the fifth, his teammates had spotted him with a 3-2 lead. The slim lead quickly vanished as he gave up a single then back-to-back homers and he was quickly yanked, throwing 103 pitches in his 4+ innings and down 5-3 on the scoreboard.Read More
