AP recap

OWA contributor Ty in Tampa is flying all over the country sampling beers at every stop and will miss his scheduled recap, and since I am working the graveyard shift this week, this will be short. Not quite the JackAstro classic shortness from last night, but very brief. I was still sleeping through the first 5 innings, so read the GZ for more detail. I think.

Defensive whiz shortstop Adam Everett fractured his right fibula and will miss at least 4-8 weeks after a collision with a horse in shallow left field in the 4th inning of todays afternoon contest against the Oakland A’s and had to be carted off the field. Eric Bruntlett was recalled after the game from AAA Round Rock to fill AE’s roster spot.

The Astros lost the game, too. And the series.

Yahoo! recap from AP

The good news. Jason Jennings returned from right elbow tendinitis to pitch five shutout innings in his first start since April 8th. Jennings struggled with his control early in the game, allowing a pair of walks and a base hit, but he was helped by a double play and escaped further damage, tossing 30 pitches in the first frame. He settled down nicely and was removed after reaching his pitch limit.Read More

Footer MIA,  Ben DuBose fills in with his wrap.

Carlos Lee hammered his second solo home run of the night off of the limestone facade with one out in the 10th inning to send the rockin’ Minute Maid Park fans home happy as the Astros beat the Giants 6-5. After a 10-14 record in April, the Astros hoped to start off the new month on a strong note, but fell behind quickly and the Reds snowballed their way to an 11-2 victory at Minute Maid Park, exposing the home teams weakness in every aspect as the good guys fell flat for the tenth time in the last eleven games.Read More
