I will be the first one to admit, I’ve never understood the animosity, rancor or flat out hatred for Jimy Williams. He struck me as a pretty good baseball mind. Stop your snickering.Read More

Mac Davis Says Hello
I was just 15 and out of control…
15 games into the season…seems about time to overreact about some things. I feel fully justified because I was able to avoid ranting about things after the first 2 games like some of the folks around here.
It’s easy to kick people when they’re down, and lower than the guy who sells Paula Abdul her pain killers right now would accurately describe Tim Redding. Last season, several people thought was when Redding turned the corner, myself included. But dude seems to have no clue what in the hell he’s doing on the mound so far in 2004. The story from the Astros, at least during the spring, was that Redding had matured and the temper tantrums, diaper wetting and teeth cutting were a thing of the past. And yet, he’s still going all Apprentice Sam whenever anything goes wrong.Read More
Opening Day Ramblings
As bandwagons go, it’s a full one in the Greater Houston area. In the Houston Chronicle, there were 24 pages dedicated to the upcoming baseball season. On talk radio, all the talk is about Opening Day and the Astros, and Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte. At the original El Gallo (did not know there was more than one) there’s a sign up asking Roger to “Get Ready.” To be fair, I assumed that they are talking about Clemens, but they might have an employee named Roger.
For those of you out of town, state or country, there is a palpable excitement around the Astros this season. One that might even survive the Astros starting the first month of the season at or below .500. Personally, I’m not 100% sold on the team as is…some of this may be the 41-year history of the team, and part may be based on the team as is, so suck a salt-lick.Read More
Consternation and Handwringing
It’s with a great amount of amusement that I’ve been monitoring the meltdowns in the TalkZone and other boards since the Astros played their way out of the postseason over the weekend, much to the glee talking heads and politicians across the land…heck, Hillary Clinton might dust off her Cubs hat again. For the second consecutive playoff-less season in a row, much handwringing and consternation has occurred in response to the plight of the Houston nine. This, of course, is completely different than the handwringing and consternation that happens when the Astros make the playoffs and different still from the handwringing and consternation that occurs five days later when the the NLDS is over.Read More
A Tell-All Story of Canseco Proportions
Now that the Astros are done for 2003, things have quieted down here at OWA. Of course, we haven?t quite approached The Void yet, so all the offseason banter has yet to get fired up. Hopefully, however, the post-choke whining is over with, and if it?s not, then we?ll try to make sure that you don?t have to read it.Read More
Roaches, Yuengling and Criminal Records
I absolutely hate anything that causes me discomfort.
I hate bright lights first thing in the morning. I hate gag-balls and choke collars. I hate the seven dollar plate of cheez-fud that is passed off as nachos in [email protected] and I hate the deity-damned Cubs.
Like a cockroach crawling around in a bowl of Skyline Chili (wait a minute, how could you tell if a roach was in your Skyline chili? Bad example.) Like a cockroach crawling out of your toilet, the frickin’ Cubs won’t die, they won’t go away, and like the cockroaches in certain parts of Houston itself, have actually taken over the division.Read More
