The Express got the better of the Hooks last night 7-0 in the final exhibition of the season. Hooks manager Luis Pujols said:
We couldn’t get anything going tonight.’ It was just one of those nights. When you play baseball and win two out of three games, I’ll take that anytime
Josh Muecke pitched 5 scoreless innings for the Express and John Gall added a 2 run homer. Brad James struggled in his outing giving up the Gall homer plus another run.
Lancaster showed that they are much better than a local community college team. They defeated the Antelope Valley CC team 15-1 in exhibition play last night. Shane Wolf will be the opening day starter for the JetHawks on Thursday.
Lexington manager Tom Lawless is excited about his roster for the 2009 season.
They’re young kids. You’ve got to be patient with them. But they should attack the strike zone. And, if we catch the baseball, we’ll be in a lot of ball games….We’ve got some speed on the bases. We’ve got some speed in the outfield. We’ve got good catching. So we’re pretty solid.
Lexington pitching coach Charlie Taylor will be on medical leave at the first of the season for treatment of Bladder Cancer. Travis Driskill, who was slated to be the Greeneville pitching coach in June, will be the interim pitching coach till Taylor rejoins the team. Driskill will be familiar with much of the pitching staff, as he coached 8 of the 12 pitchers in Greeneville last season.
