Exhibition Recaps & Lex Roster Released

Posted on April 8, 2009 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

The Express got the better of the Hooks last night 7-0 in the final exhibition of the season.  Hooks manager Luis Pujols said:

We couldn’t get anything going tonight.’ It was just one of those nights. When you play baseball and win two out of three games, I’ll take that anytime

Josh Muecke pitched 5 scoreless innings for the Express and John Gall added a 2 run homer.  Brad James struggled in his outing giving up the Gall homer plus another run.

Lancaster showed that they are much better than a local community college team.  They defeated the Antelope Valley CC team 15-1 in exhibition play last night.  Shane Wolf will be the opening day starter for the JetHawks on Thursday.

Lexington manager Tom Lawless is excited about his roster for the 2009 season.

They’re young kids. You’ve got to be patient with them. But they should attack the strike zone.  And, if we catch the baseball, we’ll be in a lot of ball games….We’ve got some speed on the bases.  We’ve got some speed in the outfield. We’ve got good catching.  So we’re pretty solid.

Lexington pitching coach Charlie Taylor will be on medical leave at the first of the season for treatment of Bladder Cancer.  Travis Driskill, who was slated to be the Greeneville pitching coach in June, will be the interim pitching coach till Taylor rejoins the team.   Driskill will be familiar with much of the pitching staff, as he coached 8 of the 12 pitchers in Greeneville last season.

Break Up The Hooks! & Wade Wants To Open An Express Lane

Posted on April 6, 2009 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

After dispatching the Astros in walk off fashion last week, the AA Hooks beat the AAA Express in an exhibition game last night.  Casey Hudspeth, Polin Trinidad and T. J. Burton combined on a 7 hitter.  Hudspeth started and gave up just three hits and no walks in four innings as the starter.  Trinidad came in and pitched well allowing four hits and no walks in four innings of relief.   Trinidad allowed the only Express run thanks to his own throwing error.Read More

Hooks Walk Off With Win

Posted on April 3, 2009 by Duman in From the Bus Stop

Since the Astros visited Corpus Christi to play an exhibition game, it allows me, a minor league contributor, to write a recap involving the big boys. Corpus Christ Caller reporter Greg Rajan even gets the call up to post the MLB recap in the place of the illustrious Allyson Footer.

Corpus Christi enjoyed it’s first visit from a major league time since 1958 when the Giants played the Indians.  Whataburger Field sold more tickets than ever before (9,118); beating the previous mark (9,022) set when Roger Clemens was on his minor league whirlwind tour.   This despite the fact that tickets cost $26.50 more than they did in 1958.

The best part of the game for the Astros was Wandy Rodriguez’s dominate performance on the mound.  He faced one over the minimum for 6 innings.  He gave us a double to Wlad Sutil but fanned 11 Hooks batters along the way.  He left the game with a 2-0 cushion that wasn’t safe.Read More
