Friday Night, the Legends built a lead 6-3 lead off the continued power surge of Colin Delome who hit his 6th homer this season and Steve Brown who hit his third of the season. Hickory came back with 5 in the 8th of Fernando Abad. Abad had been very effective in his first 5 outings this season allowing only one earned run in 11 innings before allowing 5 runs in the 8th last night. The Legends lost 8-6.

Houston Has A Problem, Arguello Pitches Out Of His, Bobbles Hurt Bud & Legends Are Hot

Houston, you have a problem. Did you hear that Ryan Houston? 8 Runs in in 1/3 of an inning off 4 hits and 4 walks. One of the hits was a grand slam. He wasn’t the only Express pitcher with a problem. Nieve gave up 6 runs in 4 innings, Paronto gave up 2 in 1 inning and Byrdak gave up 3 in 1 2/3 innings. Carlos Hines was the exception pitching one scoreless inning. The result was a 19 – 3 flogging at the hand of Oklahoma City.

Jack Cassel continued his solid pitching, going 7 innings allowing just one earned run. His mound opponent was former Major Leaguer Sidney Ponson who pitched into the 8th but gave up 3 earned runs on the night. The Express won 3-2.Read More

Chad Reineke lasted only 3 1/3 innings for the second consecutive start. The Express couldn’t dig out of the hole and lost 6-1.

Corpus Christi

Brian Bogusevic pitched six solid innings but got no decision. New acquisition, Jose Oyervidez, was the man of the hour putting out the 2 on, nobody out fire in the 9th with only 6 pitches to preserve a 3-2 win.

The Hooks bats are warming up and a few are even streaking:

Manzella (five), Paz (six), outfielder Ray Sadler (four) and Sutton (six) extended hitting streaks on Tuesday. Sutton, who is batting .375, has hits in all 11 of his starts.

Nick Gorneault hit his second homer in as many days, but Danny Klassen had the big hit, a 3 run walk off homer with 2 outs in the 9th to give the Express a 7-6 win.

Brad James continues to show he has adjusted to AA hitting with an impressive six innings of shutout work where he only allowed 4 hits and two walks while striking out 3. He got his first win of the season and dropped his ERA down to 1.59. He was efficient only throwing 77 pitches in 6 innings.Read More

Weekend Update From The Farm

Here is a weekend summary of the Astro’s Farm Teams.

Round Rock

Friday Night, Jack Cassel went 5 1/3 innings before allowing a base runner and the first reached on hit that the RR fan’s thought could have been scored otherwise.

Feliciano popped up to shallow right field for what appeared to be an out, but the ball was misplayed by the Express defense and landed at the feet of outfielder Victor Diaz and second baseman Ash. Feliciano ended up on second base, and the play was ruled a double, which prompted boos from the crowd.

The Express got the win with 2 runs in the 9th. The winning run was scored on a Josh Paul walk with the bases loaded.
