Astros at Giants – Let’s Play One

Posted on May 8, 2006 by Craig in Series Previews

By Craig Elliott

The Astros just lost a disappointing series to the Rockies, while the Giants lost all three to the Phillies. In fact, they’re 1-6 this month.

The Giants are getting banged up with injuries (Moises Alou) but the spotlight is all on FrankenBarry again. But the Astros website says Barry probably won’t play today, I guess because of the late game at Philly last night. Or he got one of his huge man-teats caught in a wringer or something.

When:
Monday, May 8, 9:15 p.m. CDT – FSN

MLB Extra Innings – The game will be broadcast on the side of Barry Bonds’  giant fucking head by Bay Area Fox. Settle in for late-night broadcasts all week, by the way, because Dodger Stadium is next.

Where: AT&T Park

Well we know they don’t have a roof. Reception is probably better that way.

The Giants have slipped below .500 and are bringing up the rear in the NL West. So to speak.

Projected Matchup

Roy Oswalt (5-1, 2.86) v. Noah Lowry (0-0, 0.00)

Roy is 2-3 against the Giants, but he beat them earlier this year in the doubleheader. Current Giants bat .307 against Roy, with three homers. Bonds is 4-for-4 against Roy, with two doubles, a triple, and a homer. And four walks and no strikeouts. But who knows if he’ll play or not.

Todd Greene is 5-for-7 (.714) against Oswalt, but he’s still wobbly after a collision with Prince Fielder. No doubt.

Pedro Feliz is 7-for-16 with two doubles, a triple, and a homer against Roy, and Randy Winn is 3-for-8. Steve Finley is filling in for Moises Alou now, but Finley is only 1-for-11 against Oswalt.

This will be Lowry’s first game back off the DL. He lasted five outs on Opening Day before getting injured. He’s 2-0 against the Astros, with an ERA of 0.56. Current Astros are only 5-for-40 (.091) against Lowry, with 16 strikeouts.

Jason Lane is 2-for-4 against him, and Mike Lamb is 1-for-2. Preston Wilson is 1-for-9 with a homer. Biggio, Berkman, Ausmus, Everett, Taveras, and Ensberg are a combined 0-for-25, with 9 strikeouts.

Key injuries:

Houston – Chris Burke is out for a while after hitting the wall in Colorado. Trever Miller is still rehabbing in Round Rock.

San Francisco – Todd Greene is still recovering from the face-plant by Prince Fielder. Moises Alou is hobbled with a sprained ankle. Ray Durham is on the DL with a hamstring injury. Starter Kelyn Acosta is on the 60-day DL, and reliever Brian Wilson is out until mid-May.
