Some people want to bring heat on the Hun right now because the Astros are underachieving. But let’s take a look at it, seriously.

You can imagine that during one of last year’s ridiculous games, where the opposition ran all over Mitch Meluskey and exploded against the bullpen as if we had cloned Doug Henry six or seven times, the Hun sat in his air conditioned suite, perhaps fiddling with his nice cuff links, and thought: “This is hell.”Read More

With Felipe Alou getting canned by the Expos, it’s time for the Astros to make a move of their own. Houston can and should “reassign” Larry Dierker within the organization and go after Alou.Read More

I’m not quite sure how long I allowed myself to use that excuse before I finally realized how much the team actually sucked. The expectations one has for a team can often make him/her blind to the cold, hard truth, and I’m fairly certain that I wasn’t the only victim of that last season (at least, for a little while).Read More

Even in a stadium like Enron there is a definite need to occasionally be able to manufacture a run, and, going further, perhaps there is a radical new way to blend the two diametrically opposed styles of baseball into a cool new battle plan. Season home run data for major league ballparks are generally reported as a total number of home runs hit, or alternatively on a home runs per game basis. Frequently, these data are also split between the homers hit by the home club and those hit by the road club.Read More

Have The Astros Missed Their Fair Share?

After Jeff Bagwell signed a five-year, $85-million contract extension last month, ESPN’s Tim Kurkjian used Bagwell’s performance in MVP voting to emphasize his value to the Astros. From 1994 to 1999, Kurkjian noted, Bagwell received more National League MVP votes than any other player.Read More
