not a circus at all. Lidge pitched Albert the same way Clemens did in 2004 Game 7--hard in. they seem to think that is better than taking a chance on hanging a slider. he shattered the bat so just say wow to AP's strength. Lidge pitched him fine.

what will get Lidge traded, imo, is his loss of command/control. when Spezio came up, i KNEW he would get on, and i knew HOW. i would have bet hard-earned money on a HBP, and Lidge did not make me wait long.

Me, too.  I had no confidence he would get Spezio and avoid Pujols, and I knew what would happen next.

Anyway, part of what this board does is give me a place to vent when I'm disgusted/frustrated/pi**ed, etc.  We care about this stuff and get worked up about it.  So after last night's game I would expect to see a flurry of posts.  Maybe that's a short-term loss of perspective, but there it is.

"My" season was over the minute we moved to London.  Waking up to read a boxscore or read a recap is NO way to follow a team.  One of the only reasons I regret moving is not being able to follow baseball "properly".

I got the feeling of doom when Lidge threw the 58-foot slider early in the inning (I can't even remember who was at bat).  That seems to be the early indicator that he's over-throwing, and he never seems to get things back in order once that happens.  Like you, I was completely unsurprised when he hit Spezio; the only surprise was that he did it on the first pitch.

No kidding.  4 1/2 games out with 19 to play and Roy pitching today.  I'm still "in a meeting this afternoon" and tuning in.  This has been a fascinating and exciting year of Astros baseball.  Nothing like 72-90.

That was to Preston Wilson on an 0-2 pitch.  It bounced twice before getting to Ausmus.  However, he struck out Wilson on a slider that was absolutely sweet.

Lidge's worse pitch of the night was when he hit Spezio with the slider.  Ausmus wasn't calling for an inside pitch, so Lidge just had absolutely no command of the pitch when he let it go.  Oddly enough, he pitched Pujols tough and 99.99% of the major leaguers will never hit the pitch that Pujols hit with any authority whatsoever.  It is at worse a weak pop out to short/third base at best a swing and a miss.

It is ungodly how good he is at adjusting to what the battery it trying to do to get him out in the at bat.  The pitch Lidge made to Albert last night was the same pitch Oswalt threw to him in game six of the NLCS.  Oswalt struck him out because he was just a tad batter at locating the pitch just above Pujol's hands than Lidge was last night.  But then again, Albert was prepared for being busted in on the hands, so he was ready.

Exactly...nothing wrong with how they pitched Pujols, or that they pitched to him in the first place.  Now, leaving leadoff doubles on the basepaths, giving up base hits to guys that are down 0-2, not hitting the piss out of Jeff Weaver..those things, they were wrong.  Everyone's talking about Lidge, but the fact is, the Astros shouldn't have been in that situation.  The game was theirs for the taking.
