OK, I'm back in town.  I'm drinking pina coladas and eating smoked fish spread, so hopefully that will bring them some luck.

I hope he gets shelled today, but I'm pulling for Rich Hill overall. Career renaissance at 36? That's awesome.

With Carter gone, I think Gattis has taken the mantle for "most frustrating AB to watch".

Agreed.  Always hacking at shit and watching cookies. When he actually swings at ones he should (all too rare), he's pretty talented.

I wonder if the shift is as effective as the percentages would indicate when a pitcher is a soft tosser like Feldman. My guess is that it's not.

Instead of a quick 1,2,3 inning the A's have 2 on with one out because the Astros insist on moving infielders away from the place where infielders play.

Umm, maybe we shouldn't shift so hard if we're going to pitch on the outside of the plate?

I also wonder if their data is where the hitters usually hit, or where the hitters usually hit while facing a shift. There are definitely guys who are able and willing to beat a shift.

B2:

Davis grounds to 2B, no one is there on the shift...single
Vogt pops out F4
Crisp with a lazy ground ball to SS, but guess what...shift is on so no one is there...Davis to 2B
Coghlan strikes out swinging
Alonzo walks on four pitches, Davis to 3B, Vogt to 2B
Semien breaks his bat on a little pop to SS, Correa lets it drop at his feet, flips to 2B to force Alonzo on a VERY close play.

Fister has to get five outs, and the Astros still lead 1-0 after two

Castro with a breaking bat liner to LF for a single
Altuve...3-0...3-1...3-2...walks, Castro to 2B
Springer quickly 0-2...grounds into FC, Altuve out 5-4, Castro to 3B...A's challenging...confirmed
Correa takes two cookie fastballs...works the count full...walks, Springer to 2B
Rasmus with a  sac fly to RF, Castro scores, Springer moves to 3B
Gattis pops to 1B in foul ground, Alonzo alligator arms it and it drops...E3 and Gattis gets another chance...works the count full, and walks, Correa to 2B

I just watched Kershaw flip a 2-2 uncle charlie to strike out Brett Wallace looking. Nasty.

101 pitches while striking out 14. Ungodly.

That was a nice play by Burns. That's a difficult ball when you have to go straight back with no angle to judge it by.

Astros got a leadoff HR from Altuve, and the only other hit was Castro's broken bat flair single in the 3rd.  But it was enough.

You're right. Keuchel, Harris, and Gregerson make three.
