They don't call them that any more because it's a touchy name, but it's a group of people who maintain and fly vintage aircraft in Texas. I think some of their planes are the only ones left that are still airworthy.

I saw the B-29 fly at the Reading WWII festival on Memorial Day Weekend. Amazing airplane.

We used to go hang around Bergstrom and look at the B-52s when it was a SAC base. I wish my kids could've seen those planes, they were immense and that SAC base in town was a pretty chilling reminder of the Cold War. There's still an air raid siren mounted on a post near my house that they used to test, but I don't think they've run it in ten years or so.

As I'm sure you heard JD speculated that Downs was sent to make sure that the throw got cut and the run scored but Altuve was going to score no matter what happened with the throw so I don't really know what Meacham was thinking over there.

That might have been the case, I didn't see Meacham's signal and it might make the most sense but it doesn't make much sense at all.

yes, it does. that is a very common play that is taught to baserunners for situations when the run is an important one. it is a deliberate move to force a cutoff.

Of course it does. At the time that Meacham sent Downs, he didn't know whether the throw was on line or would be cut. Anything that you can do to minimize the chance of the first baseman to let the throw go home, you do. Period.
