my 13 year-old cousin enthusiastically explained the whole plot of this book to me last summer and it seemed to make perfect sense to her. of course she's 13 and a girl
I was speaking to a class of 6th graders earlier this week, at a high-end private religious school, and I don't know what made me do it, but just prior to launching into my prepared talk, I said, "Before we start, I have one question for you. What is the
deal with vampires?"
The room exploded into conversation, and yelling. It was amazing, I had no idea. There was so much commotion, the assistant headmaster had to get up on the stage and shout the students down. I never did get a clear answer to my question, just some pre-pubescent girls screaming that so-and-so (one of the actors, I presume) is "so hot!!"
I never got the whole Anne Rice thing, either. To me, vampires are one of the stupidest and most unappealing fictional constructs out there, maybe in history. Shows what I know.
