I am sure that Smoltz' record against the stros might be comparable, though I am just pulling that from my ass.

Was discussed by JD and Brownie last night.  No pitcher has ever had this 22-1 record before, though one did have a 33-3 against a team.

According to BP the next best record in the last 50 years (min. 20 starts) is Camilo Pascual against the Rangers at 13-1.  After that it's Peavy against the Dodgers at 12-1.

Mark Portugal was death for the Giants for a long period of time with the Astros.

11-3 against them with Houston, if I'm reading ESPN's splits right..

That must be vs. the Senators.

Warning: WikiCrapia reference coming.

Roy O's .957 winning % (22-1) against the Reds is by far the highest.
Carl Mays is second, with a .921 winning % (35-3) against the Philadelphia Athletics.

"Oswalt is the first pitcher ever to begin his career by going 22-1 against another team. Three other pitchers began 20-1, but each then lost his 22nd decision: Charley Radbourn against the Phillies, and Larry Jackson and Juan Marichal both against the Mets."

You're right.  His last pitched in '71.

The records stay with the franchise, so the Senators/Rangers would still be correct, technically speaking.

As opposed to the Senators/Twins, for whom Pasqual toiled.

Heh, oops. I should have checked.

ETA: He actually played for both Senator franchises.

IIRC Larry Jackson had a heck of a record against the Colt .45's/Astros, too.
