and they drop by here from time to time.
And are taken aback -- well and truly shocked (albeit not speechless, alas) -- when they find a small clump of fans, Fistulae Like Us, if you will, who do not necessarily believe the primary purpose of baseball is to be just another facet of modern life for one to bitch and moan about, like the government, or the price of gasoline.
I was looking at The Chron's sports page last night, which is a chore. I believe every time they run across a new HTML gew-gaw or applet thing, they immediately plug it into the page. Anyway, after allowing my eyes to focus for a bit, I was able to see some links to Biggio/3000 content. No text, just links. I did not want to click on them, and launch countless additional Java applications, but before leaving I decided to look around the perimeter of the Astros page. On the fringes, there was a McTaggert column in which he crows that he is often accused of being too hopeful when it comes to the Astros, but now he, McTaggert, is officially pronouncing them dead for the season. The insinuation being that any wayward thought that randomly alights in McTaggert's head is column-worthy.
Then there was this little tidbit, by someone calling himself 'gwire', in a section called Rant and Rave, which is I assume a place for readers to vent:
"It's time for somebody to publicly call these guys out. Somebody needs to question their heart."On the night that arguably the greatest player in franchise history passes a milestone that will be remembered by baseball fans everywhere, for all time.
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
