how is tonight's pitcher for the brewers
i wouldn't be surprised if pence sleeps with his eyes open...his nonblinking is one of his best traits as a ballplayer
brewer announcers talking about a lance thumb injury like its common knowledge. did i miss something?
Hey guys, it's fucking hot at Miller Park tonight. BTW, do other teams manage to go entire games without serving up gopher balls?
Ausmus' homer was evidently more than the HD cameras could withstand. HD picture out in Austin. Now it's back, just in time to get a good look at Wandy's mug.
Ausmus just did the Astros first back-to-back HR of the season....and my video feed just cut out.Armagedon.
I'll admit it. I was not expecting that.
Ok, here's a funny story and I'm sure someone in here knows what I'm talking about.Must have been about 15 years ago now and I'll botch some part of this story, but it's directionally correct, and absolutely happened.Pre-game (halftime?) of some sporting event. Not a major event, possibly a D1 basketball game. Anyway, all of a sudden, screen goes black, no sound. So everyone figures it'll come back any second, and it never does. The rest of the game (or second half, whatever it was) goes untelevised.Turns out, some asshole broke into the fucking studio truck while the driver was out smoking and stole it. Took off with the van with the employees still inside it (in the back). They caught the guy, but I think that takes some MASSIVE balls.
How did they catch you?
JEEZ. Gar looks like, 50 years younger without his mustache.
ANyone ever noticed that Ausmus is pretty good behind the plate? He makes it look easy.
listening tonight....did he shave the stash?!
They keep showing a 12 year old in our dugout, arms crossed, mouth full of sunflower seeds, looking stoic.
Yep, but that throw on Hart's steal was ugly.
My TV keeps looking like the TV's in Independence Day. You guys having the same problem?
'Stros have about a half dozen bat boys here. Not sure who else's kids are on the trip.
So, where are you sitting?
Mark it down. I saw Hunter blink.
If you recall Michael Moore's first film Roger and Me there was an anecdote about how Nightline came to Flint to broadcast a live show on the town's many problems and just before the show was to air a laid-off GM employee jimmy-jacked the broadcast truck and drove it away. He was later apprehended.
The Lidless Eye never blinks. One does not simply take ball four into Mordor...
Had to watch that in 12th grade... all I really remember is some crazy redneck woman breaking rabbits' necks and stringing them up.I do want to see Sicko, though.
Do you know, I recently had rabbit for the first time. It had been slow roasted and was extremely tender, quite reminiscent of a very slowly roasted pork shoulder, and it was served in something akin to a pipian sauce. It was awesome.
Anybody else yelling at the TV "Stop, Carlos, Stop!!!" Can't afford to lose any more shortstops.
I fucking LOVE rabbit.
I haven't seen enough of what kind of 1st baseman he is to call it.
Prince Fielder is fat.Great hitter.I haven't seen enough of what kind of 1st baseman he is to call it.
That kind, I guess. And fat.ETA: D'oh!
J.D. says, "You talk about White Tower Power" (re: Carlos' home run) WTF does that mean?
Light Tower Power. Not White Tower.
I say, and I'm serious...leave Biggio in the rest of the season at this point. He could easily pass Rickey for 20th all time. That would be pretty cool.
I'm not even remotely kidding, by the way. He was a very pleasant surprise, but the injuries have finished him.
Fuck Rickey. Biggio plays because, and this is the truth, THEY HAVE NO BETTER OPTIONS.
Not true, and you know it. Loretta is a better 2b and a better hitter.
Great, so they just have to play Loretta at 2b, SS, and 3b.
where do they turn now with the bullpen? can anyone be brought up that wont ruin games? do they have to stick with this group the rest of the year?
2007 is over, gentlemen.
Really, it doesn't matter where they play who at the point. Make Woody the ace. Put Biggio at 1b. I don't care.I'll watch every night and hope we make some nice trades that strengthen our dogshit system and pick up some big FAs this offseason. Even if they overpay for them again. Hell, I don't sign the paychecks.
What makes me sad is that it looked like a good game...until I quit looking....
GOOD. JOB.
Unfortunately, watching the Astros isn't my job. We could work out a deal, though.
at this point it's just comical.the bug on his hat is gonna get a lot of play on ESPN.
We all have a big decision to make at this point. We can all be a bunch of whiny candyasses. That seems to be the general drift. Or we can watch the fucking games and be men about this. Your choice. This whole place can dissolve into a whiny piss puddle of "Garner sucks" and "Purpura is an idiot", that wouldn't be uncommon. Lots of that kind of commentary, everywhere you look. I promise you this - That. Will. Not. Be. Pretty. Be better than that. If you have it in you.
seriously, could some brave soul explain to me what happened on this luke scott/wandy play?
the bug on his hat is gonna get a lot of play on ESPN.
the "freakin pterodactyl" as JD put it
Now, wait a second. Who is saying Garner sucks? What does he have to do with this? I don't blame Garner in the LEAST for this mess. Who the hell was going to pitch?? Randolph? Ha.And I'll grant you that sitting around and whining about "Purpura being an idiot (I know he's not actually an idiot)" does no one any good. But when do we start doling out some credit where it's due? What's the answer? I'm asking you. What do you want me to post?
I wondered if I was the only one who saw that.
Quick question, pravata:Has anyone said anything about Garner/Purpura sucking idiots in the GZ tonight?Yeah, you may be heading off something, but I enjoyed the time I got to watch the Astros tonight. Actually, I got to enjoy watching baseball tonight. If the other team did good, I enjoyed that, too.
You're going to take this wrong, I promise you, but STOP BEING A WHINY CANDYASS. Seriously. Everyone sees exactly what is going on. Stop being so damn lazy.
Lazy, how? I'm saying...if I sit around and speak in soft tones about how it'll all be better and we'll be fine doesn't change the outcome of the game any more than me venting. I'm not taking it wrong. The flipside is...do you think I don't realize I'm whining like a candyass?
Lazy because you're taking the easy way out. Stop, damn it, say something interesting, or intelligent or at least fucking funny. This is hard enough to take without you people losing it. Some people I expect it from and they can do no better.
Alright, alright, alright. Let me get another beer.
OH, hell yeah.
I dont have the heart to go back and watch again, but I believe Luke looked up early on a grounder and it simply went under his glove and back to the wall. Has to feel like the smallest man in the stadium.
The reality is that Milwaukee inserts a reliever to stop the bleeding in a Houston rally and (nobody out, two men on, already two runs scored). Said reliever promptly throws a nice tailing fastball low and away that turns into a double play. Walks the next batter to go get the pitcher and clean up the inning.Houston inserts a reliever and he allows a homerun on the first freaking pitch and it gets worse after that. Again, the reality is, you don't win in this league without a bullpen. Fact!
Well, which is it man?

Lidge going down kicked a big hole in this one. Qualls and Wheeler, whatever issues they have, hasnt helped.
I agree that scapegoating and name-calling... be it at the expense of Garner, Purpura or whoever... is wrong. But if all we can do is talk about positives... that is positives that are actually true... this site is going to have more blank pages than Scott Barzilla's little black book...
My fear is that in a couple weeks the bullpen will sort things out and be back to being an effective unit. But because of the way this season is going, at that point the starting pitching will go south.
I agree that Loretta will be very marketable at the deadline, but I'd sure like to see him as next year's 2B.
This is kind of interesting.Only the Cardinals score fewer runs AND give up more runs than the Astros (in the NL).So, that should make you happy. Fuck the Cardinals.
HEY!!! Defense! Nice!
And somehow they're still ahead of us in the standings.
What is the deal with Oswalt, anyway?Mechanics? Some minor, nagging health problem(s)?Has he just let this season/offense get into his head?
That was positive.
That's why you keep watching games like this. First, you're a baseball fan. Second, you might just get a little hope for the future be it futile, ephemeral or maybe even real.
Wandy lost it after he didnt get the low call on the 1st batter in the blow up inning.
Oswalt's performance is this season is perhaps the most disheartening of everything that has gone wrong this season.
hey jim, does randolph look any different in mlb versus how he did in RR, or is it just Zeke Astacio syndrome?
Those are good questions and boy do I wish I knew what the answers may be. Oswalt's performance is this season is perhaps the most disheartening of everything that has gone wrong this season. When you need a leader on the team is when things go south, not when they're going well. He's not acting like a leader.I miss Adam Everett.
Watching Oswalt and Berkman struggle scares the living shit out of me.They are absolutely vital for rebuilding... either as leaders for the next generation or, if push comes to shove, trade bait that could bring in a small army of young talent. If one or both of them end up as damaged goods... with all of the other problems in the organization... hello, nuclear winter...

Dont think that makes up for anything Ninja Boy.
No. Trade. Clause.Neither one is going to get you much in return when they can dictate where they want to go (if they do). Houston has to stick with them and hope for the best.
But if he's finding his swing that would not bother me one bit.
And catch the ball. But the thing that bothers me the most is that he didnt trust his teammates enough to listen for someone to call "THIRD!" Instead he had to look.
It wasn't even that. Scott only has one play with the bases loaded. He throws home, low enough for the ball to be cut. He took his eye off the ball, plain and simple.
What was that yellow thing on the back of Rick White's cap when he was pitching?
Right, charging the ball, he knows the play, if there is any question, he hears the call. The doubt made him look.
an insect spy
I was celebrating my son's birthday, and missed most of the game. I just saw highlights and it looked like a dragonfly or something, I'll just take your word for it.
Doubt or cheat. He could have been looking up in order to see if the runner on second was trying to score or holding up. Either way, no no. HH has it right, no exception.
I actually think he pulled up because the groin barked at him again. He's playing half-speed right now and it may just be that the leg problems he's had all season long just bit him at the most inapportune time. No one wants to be called a Jake, so he's out there giving it hell... and looking like hell too.
I'll buy that. He almost over ran the liner by Hardy in the 3rd, and he still missed it.
For Chrissake, if Brad Ausmus gets a flippin' home run, when he don't get many, can we just kindly take the trouble to win the game?!? For Chrissake. I feel badly that Wandy got lit up, but the bullpen... I won't get started on the bullpen.Oh, and for anybody who's wondering who the hell I am, I found the link to this place on the Crawfish Boxes site.
Dude, just an observation.
