You did not just post a link to another forum for discussion.  A lame forum and lame discussion.

That's trolling, and if Spack doesn't ban you I'll be stunned.

That's a Clark with a capital C.

Mulder had an ERA of 7.14 last year in 17 starts before being put on the DL for damage to his rotator cuff. Seems like a semi-desperate risk for the Jakes. I'm completely ignorant about rotator cuff injuries, does anyone know other pitchers that have returned after an injury like Mulder's?

Last year in Columbus before and after UT won, tOSU fans were so disrespectful that the president of Ohio State had to write an apology letter. That and the fact that Boise St. would be the only undefeated team makes Florida easier to root for.

Looks like a lot of booze and young ladies. Is Pence the opening day starting center fielder or does he start if Lane falters?

Talk Zone / Re: interesting article and its import to the Astros
« on: December 28, 2006, 04:51:43 pm »
My two cents: Ideally, Clemens signs, Woody's the 4, then Sampson, Wandy, Albers and whomever else compete for the 5th spot. I'd think that Woody would be a solid improvement over the Astros 2006 4th SP. If Clemens doesn't sign, however, then the 3-5, when compared to the league, doesn't look very good at all. If he does resign, then the Astros would again have one of, if not, the best rotation in the NL.

The latest, from yesterday's game:

Bills linebacker Takeo Spikes said he's gotten a kick out of Titans quarterback Vince Young's surge this season.

"Some of the so-called experts tried to say, 'Look at his release' or 'Look at his Wonderlic test.' Now it is like he is shoving it up their (ass),'' Spikes said. "I like that. I really do. The guy is a baller, man. Point blank. Period. He makes plays. He is a winner.''

and a random  nugget

Merry Christmas, Bah Humbug, and all that good stuff to all...

I love, London Calling. But. It's not my all time favorite. I've a tough time ranking things as such. It still gets played several times a year. It is a great album. Why quibble? I'm going go with "Lost in the Supermarket" as my favorite track off the LP.

I realize (or realiSe, for you Limey) that London Calling is not everyone's taste.  But for me, it's not only brilliant, but marks a kind of special time in my life.  I was in Jr. High the first time I heard it, and my friends were listening to whatever was popular at the time, Top 40 stuff, the occassional Led Zeppelin or Lynyrd Skynyrd, which I love, but it just didn't grab me at the time.  I wanted something different.  This was also the beginning of the New Wave craze, and the music didn't sound, I don't know, angry enough for me.  When I heard The Clash, it was like a switch going off in my head.  The irony is that I was not a punk in real life, not really rebellious, fairly quiet and obedient.  Perhaps that's why I wanted the opposite in my music.  At any rate, I listen to London Calling probably once a week, and after 25+ years and changing musical tastes, I'm still amazed at how good it is.  For the record, my favorite tune off the album is "Death or Glory" (though I think The Clash's greatest song is "Straight to Hell" off of Combat Rock).

I think "Death or Glory" is my favorite also, though "Four Horsemen" is a close second. But in the last couple of years with all the bullshit Homeland Security laws being passed, "Guns of Brixton" seems relevant again. "When they kick at your front door ..."

You're obviously a terrorist, hell bent on destroying our freedom. Oh the irony, Orwell had it right.

All this talk about Vince Young being a punk is absurd. VY doing the heisman pose is the only piece of evidence that is even debatable about the subject. People that have been following Vince for a while know that he's a great guy and an even better football player. Time will tell on all fronts.

Passion is different than showboating, sometimes it's the perception that changes one to the other. Big differences between football and baseball too.

He was excited and didn't hide it.

He didn't snub President Bush, that's funny. There was a mixup with with his suit and he later said that he was really embarrassed by it.

A pretty good interview:

No, VY's never had any off-field issues after getting out of trouble as a young teenager. He's actually very community-conscious. And he can throw the ball just fine and will only get better at it.

Both, hopefully. Best FA available has gotta be that Clemens guy, along with Zito, then a steep dropoff to Suppan, Weaver and other varieties of overpriced junk...

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Marquis has accepted a three-year, $28 million offer from the Cubs. Marquis is coming off back-to-back losing seasons with the Cardinals, and was 14-16 with a 6.02 ERA in 2006. His best season was 2004, when he was 15-7 with a 3.71 ERA.

Meche and now Marquis have to be two of the worst-valued SP signings ever. Downright ChanHoPark-esque.

If Marquis, one of the worst starters in the majors last year, is getting almost 10 mil a year, what the hell is Zito gonna get?

The buzz around baseball is that MLB officials -- particularly commissioner Bud Selig -- weren't happy with the Astros for giving $100 million over six years to free agent Carlos Lee. So owner Drayton McLane might be trying to placate MLB's hard-liners by attempting to hold down the rest of his payroll.

That smells of extreme bullshit. What does McLane have to lose for him to placate Selig?

'Both teams know that if Andy gets hurt, he won?t take the option"

Well, how about we make it a fucking team option then. The most likely scenario is that Andy's elbow doesn't fall off completely, but continues to deteriorate... So just a little worse than last year would be like a 4.5 ERA and a 1.5 WHIP  this season.   Then for next season Andy's wife would sure as hell force him to take the 14 million dollar option if he didn't want it in the first place.   You got 14 million in quite possibly a below league average pitcher.  Screw that.  Astros aren't in a position to give 2 year 30 million dollar deals to players who were pondering their future 3 days ago.   Give Roger 22 million and let's see if he can pitch the whole season. I think we learned that making the playoffs should be the first priority.

If there's a silver lining to this for the Astros, it's Pettitte's elbow and declining performance. He was one game over being a .500 pitcher with an era at 4.20 and a whip at 1.44. Those are #3-type numbers. He pitched great down the stretch, but if his elbow continues to be a problem, there's little chance than his performance would improve, and a good chance it would decline and that he'd be DL'ed often, or shutdown completely.

What I find amazing is that while the contract is for 16mil, the Yankees are actually going to pay 22.4 mil with the luxury tax.  At that price, they can have him.

Pettitte's got a player option for 16 million for '08. So he's getting 32 million over two years guaranteed and the Yankees will be paying about 45 million for two years, regardless of how his elbow holds up.
