Good to see some folks with a Cleveland connection here. I grew up in University Heights on the east side and moved to Houston with my family in 1979. Saw all my Tribe/Brownies games in old, decrepit, decaying Cleveland Municipal Dungeon, which now rests at the bottom of Lake Erie, and rightfully so. People love to romanticize the old ballparks but there's no way around it - that place was a complete shithole. 80,000 seats, 75% of them obstructed view. Getting tickets was never a problem, though.
Cleveland was not a happy place at all back then. The city had defaulted on its bonds, the economy was completely in the crapper, people were leaving in droves, and Dennis Kucinich was mayor. It was literally a national laughingstock. Moving to Houston was a definite step up for us, although Cleveland seems to have recovered somewhat since then.
As I remember it, people were much more passionate about the Browns than the Indians. At least the Browns gave you the occasional glimmer of hope whereas you knew the Indians were headed straight for the cellar in any given year. I still like the Tribe enough to jump on their bandwagon when they are playing well. Never could get into the new Browns though.
You're right about the weather - spring and summer are great there, but winter gets old real fast. Say what you will about Houston's summers, but no one ever had to shovel heat and humidity.
