GM Wade flew into Corpus Christi to watch righthander Brandon Backe make the fourth of his five scheduled rehab starts.
“Ed went to see (Backe) up close and personal,” Manager Cooper said.
Backe gave up eight hits and four runs with three strikeouts over seven innings, throwing 56 of his 77 pitches for strikes for the Class AA Hooks. Link
KHOU 5/12/2009 : A grand jury could reach its decision this week on charges in the Brandon Backe bar brawl case.
Backe’s attorney has said his client was only trying to help calm the situation down, but police said he was interfering.
They will decide whether to indict or no-bill the felony allegations and make their recommendation to the district attorney’s office. Link
A Man Can Stand Up…
“Brocail and Valverde, I guess they both threw (Tuesday) and did fine,” Cooper said. “They did their little thing standing up throwing and did OK. Even Valverde stood up and threw. Brocail can’t stride and stuff, but he can stand still and throw.” Link
“If they can stand up, then you don’t have to worry about them having to build back up,” Cooper said. “There’s a lot of stuff that has to go into that. That’s what we’re hoping.” Link
