Bullpens

Footer noticed that Chris Sampson has the same injury that shelved Alex Rodriguez, a torn labrum in his hip.

What’s the diff? (besides the fact that Rodriguez’s labrum is wrapped in money) She asked Ed Wade,

He compared Sampson’s tear to peeling an orange. If you peel it slightly back but don’t break it off, it snaps back into place. As long as the labrum doesn’t tear further he should be OK, but there are no guarantees that it won’t.

“I guess it’s degrees of tolerance more than anything,” Wade said. (Rich people feel more.)

They’re anticipating having to monitor him closely and watch back-to-back situations. Good chance he’ll have surgery after the season.

As for Papa Grande Cojones, the People Mover, The Black Knight, the Ultimate Safe Word,

He told Wade and Rex Jones, “I think I’ll be able to go [Friday]”.

“If he’s available by the weekend, I’d be happy,” Cooper said.  Link

A mainstay of the Brewers bullpen is Todd Coffey. Since they  claimed him off waivers last September from Cincinnati, he has compiled 16 scoreless appearances covering 17 innings.

Manager Macha “His performance has been awesome. We’ve only had a few wins (this season) and he’s played a big part in all of them, probably.”

What’s the difference between pitching in Cincinnati and pitching in Milwaukee?

Without going into great detail, Coffey noted that Reds pitching coach Dick Pole wasn’t a fan of the big right-hander’s favorite pitch, a sinking fastball.

“Their philosophy was to go with a four-seamer away,” said Coffey. “So, it was a philosophical difference. We agreed to disagree.” Link

Until they cut him.
