Valverde has a bruised right ankle and he pulled his right calf muscle when he stretched out on the ground trying to field the ball.
“Right now, I just put it on ice and check it tomorrow,” he said. “See how I feel.”
“I felt it a lot,” he said. “It affected me a lot. I wanted to pitch. I wanted to support my team, and that’s what I did today.”
Valverde refused to come out even though trainer Rex Jones, manager Cecil Cooper and catcher Pudge Rodriguez suggested he’d exit.
“I’ll be OK,” he said. “It’s sore when I throw. I didn’t try to pay attention to it too much.” Link
Even though JD said he was up, Sampson probably wasn’t available last night
An MRI exam of Chris Sampson’s right hip revealed a small tear in the labrum, but the right-handed reliever is not expected to miss time with the injury.
Sampson said the injury probably happened on April 7 vs. the Cubs moving to first to take the throw on a bunt. He aggravated the injury on Saturday when he stepped awkwardly on the bag while making a play at first.
“I’m going to pitch through it,” Sampson said. “… I just have to make sure it’s not bothering me enough to where I have to alter my mechanics to get through it….”
“I was down [Monday], got the injection, and today felt kind of jelly-like. [Wednesday], I should be A-OK, ready to go.” Link
